About the program
You’ll join the Community Health Paediatric and Counselling Service, working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence‑based, trauma‑informed counselling and casework across our local community.
Your role, your impact
We’re looking for counsellors who want to make a practical difference for adults, children and families. In this role you will:
- Deliver short‑ to medium‑term counselling (face to face, telehealth, phone) including therapy‑informed approaches to support people experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, stress, parenting challenges and family violence.
- Create trauma‑informed therapeutic plans and facilitate casework and group work aligned with an 8–10 session model.
- Screen for family violence (MARAM), mental health concerns and substance use, and activate referrals via safe pathways.
- Assess child‑focused risk continuously and co‑design safety plans with clients and supports.
- Collaborate across a multidisciplinary team and document care in line with Each policies, quality standards and compliance requirements.
This is purposeful work—you’ll see the impact of your care in real lives, every day.
Who we’re looking for
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to build trust, liaise across services and present clearly.
- Skilled in assessment and goal‑focused care planning, using child‑safe, evidence‑based and trauma‑informed practice.
- Organised and reliable—able to manage your caseload, coordinate care, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Inclusive practitioner: confident working with Indigenous, CALD and LGBTIQ+ communities, and using interpreters where needed.
Mandatory qualifications
- Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Family Therapy (or related field).
- Registration with a relevant professional body (AASW, ACA, PACFA).
What will make you stand out
- Experience facilitating group wellbeing sessions.
- Additional training in family therapy, child & youth mental health or trauma‑focused modalities.
- Confidence with MARAM and Information Sharing Schemes (FVISS/CISS).
- Experience collaborating across community health and local service networks.
