The Tŝilhqot’in National Government is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia serving six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tl'etinqox, Tl'esqox, Tŝideldel, Xeni Gwet'in, and Yuneŝit'in. The Tŝilhqot’in National Government’s mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqot’in peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqot’in philosophy, values, experience and culture.

 

The Communications Manager supports TNG and its initiatives through communication and engagement with the Tŝilhqot’in citizens, the Tŝilhqot’in communities, external partners, and the public. This role oversees both external and internal communications, works with leadership and senior management to maintain communication with TNG’s various stakeholders, and ensures messaging and branding is consistent, engaging, and advances the priorities of the Tŝilhqot’in Nation through the appropriate communications channels.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare press releases, opinion pieces, public statements, and written content
  • Coordinate media calls and interviews and seek or respond to public speaking opportunities and appearances to gain coverage in the news
  • Transform content provided by subject matter experts into reader-friendly and audience-appropriate material
  • Showcase and share Tŝilhqot’in culture and identity
  • Develop key messages and speaking notes
  • Develop positive relationships with external communications teams and partners
  • Manage online presence on TNG’s website, digital channels, and social media platform
  • Develop and edit newsletters, reports, and other communications materials
  • Create, monitor, and assess communication or engagement strategies, plans, and tactics
  • Develop communication policies and processes
  • Report to the Leadership Table and attend the Chiefs meetings, as required
  • Supervise the Communications department staff
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or equivalent
  • Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills, including the ability to tailor writing for voice, audience and communication channel
  • Demonstrate strong organization skills, high level of accuracy, and the ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain and protect confidential and proprietary information
  • Proficient with a variety of computer software applications, including Microsoft products, Adobe Suite, and Canva
  • Able to work collaboratively and build networks internally and externally
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations or communities is considered an asset


Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required
