Collections Specialist (Part Time)

$26,000 – $31,200 per year

TLDR

Manage overdue accounts by contacting customers to negotiate payment plans, resolve billing issues, and maintain records to recover unpaid bills within legal compliance.

The Bigleaf Collections specialist is a key member of our accounting team. This role manages overdue accounts by contacting customers via phone and email, negotiating payment plans, resolving billing issues, and updating records, aiming to recover unpaid bills while maintaining professionalism and adhering to debt collection laws.  

This is a part-time role, approximately 20 hours per week. This part-time role does not qualify for any standard company benefits.
The role will be done primarily from home, though may be asked to travel to our Tigard office for training or occasional team meetings (1-3x per quarter).

Responsibilities

Contact clients (phone, mail, email) to discuss outstanding balances
Analyzes each account using independent judgment, then decide how to best proceed with customer follow up to optimize payment likelihood
Understands and follow Bigleaf procedures for writing off balances and operate within our procedures for negotiation with customer  
Develop and implement repayment plans to resolve debts efficiently
Address customer inquiries, billing disputes, and payment platform professionally to remove payment blockers
Maintain detailed records of all collection activities and account updates
Prepare monthly reports on collection progress, status, and metrics
Proactively communicate members of accounting, order management, sales team to keep account stakeholders up to date as needed

Qualifications:

5 Years of experience in accounting, collections or billing
Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills and ability to put these skills to work to negotiate collections and navigate customer conversations
Basic accounting knowledge (navigating an invoice, familiarity with payments, aging reports)
Knowledge of debt collection laws and regulations (e.g., FDCPA).
Proficiency in billing procedures and financial analysis
Problem-solving, analytical abilities, and attention to detail
Ability to work diligently towards collection targets
Familiarity with NetSuite (or similar ERP systems)

 

Individual compensation packages are based on a number of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job related factors.


Salary Range
$26,000$31,200 USD
