Are you excited to help run and improve enterprise-scale cloud platforms that support mission critical University services and cutting edge research? Notre Dame is hiring a Cloud Engineer Professional to join a highly skilled team known for operational excellence in AWS, now expanding into Azure and GCP.

You’ll support day-to-day cloud operations, primarily AWS, using Terraform/CloudFormation and GitHub workflows, while gaining strong opportunities to learn and grow your multi-cloud and automation expertise alongside experienced cloud engineers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure and automation scripts.

  • Working with cloud architects and team members to assist in implementing proper cloud infrastructure to support ongoing projects.

  • Performing standard administration tasks such as instance deployments, storage configurations, and patch management.

  • Developing tools and scripts to assist with routine maintenance tasks and to automate repeatable tasks.

  • Maintaining system and cloud architecture documentation.

  • Collaborating with Architects to define best practices and standards for cloud operations.

  • Supporting cloud governance and operational controls across AWS, Azure, and GCP, including policy/guardrail implementation, account/subscription/project hygiene, and identity and access management.

  • Administering and maintaining AWS, Azure, and GCP environments, including core resource configuration, monitoring, cost management support, and operational troubleshooting.

  • Assisting with implementing and maintaining AWS Organizations, Azure organizational structures (e.g., management groups/subscriptions), and GCP organizational structures (e.g., organizations/folders/projects), including standards alignment, tagging/labeling, and security baseline enforcement.

  • Administering and maintaining core cloud services, primarily AWS, using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and CloudFormation), including IAM resources, networking (VPC/subnets/routes), security groups, DNS, and AWS Organizations configuration across development, test, and production environments.

  • Following Git-based workflows for infrastructure and automation code (branching, pull requests, code review, and versioning) and uses GitHub for source control and collaboration, including working within CI/CD pipelines where applicable.

  • Git Workflows and GitHub Collaboration (PRs, reviews, versioning, CI/CD)

  • Documentation, Standards, and Runbooks

Minimum:

  • Hands-on experience operating cloud infrastructure in a production/enterprise environment

  • Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation

  • Working knowledge of AWS operational fundamentals (IAM, networking, DNS, security groups, and multi-account governance concepts such as AWS Organizations)

  • Experience supporting monitoring/alerting and incident response; familiarity with service management processes for requests and incidents

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities, strong written and oral communication skills, and strong documentation skills

  • Ability to work at the University of Notre Dame without visa sponsorship, now or in the future. 

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting governance and operational controls in Microsoft Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform

  • Experience Supporting Windows and Linux Servers

  • Experience building automation tooling (scripts, CLIs, operational utilities) to reduce toil and improve reliability

  • Experience contributing to or operating BC/DR plans, runbooks, and recovery testing in cloud environments

  • Experience with GitHub-based CI/CD workflows for infrastructure delivery

Please Note: This is a full time position, M-F 8-5, with occasional after hours and/or weekend support. This role may begin as a fully onsite position during an acclimation and ramp-up period. After this period, the position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement (1-2 days remote) based on operational needs and team expectations.
