Cloud Architect

TLDR

Design and govern cloud platforms end-to-end, ensuring infrastructure, networking, security, and automation for high-performance, scalable systems while mentoring teams and leading technical decisions

The Technical Cloud Architect designs, builds, and governs cloud platforms that actually work at scale this role owns cloud architecture end-to-end: infrastructure, networking,  security, automation, and reliability. You’re not drawing diagrams for PowerPoint — you’re  accountable for platforms running in production , this role sits between engineering, operations, and leadership and is expected to make hard technical decisions, defend them, and execute.

Key Responsibilities :

Architecture & Design
Design private, public, or hybrid cloud platforms (VMware, CloudStack, OpenStack, Kubernetes-based).
Define reference architectures for compute, storage, networking, and security.
Own multi-AZ, HA, and DR designs — no single points of failure.
Standardize platform components.

Infrastructure & Platforms
• Architect and optimize:
Virtualization (VMware, KVM, CloudStack)
Containers (Kubernetes, OpenShift, managed or self-hosted)
Storage (SAN, object, distributed storage like Ceph, Pure, PowerStore)
Networking (L2/L3, BGP, EVPN, SDN, load balancing)
Drive performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.

Automation & IaC
Enforce Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/OpenTofu, Ansible, Helm).
Define Git-based workflows (GitOps where applicable).
Eliminate manual provisioning wherever possible.

Security & Governance
Embed security by design:
IAM, RBAC, network segmentation
Secrets management (Vault, Bitwarden, KMS)
Compliance, audit, and hardening standards
Define guardrails, not bottlenecks.

Reliability & Operations
Design for observability:
Monitoring (Prometheus, Zabbix, Grafana)
Logging (ELK, Loki)
Alerting that doesn’t spam
Define SLOs, SLAs, and capacity models.
Support incident reviews and root-cause analysis — no blame, only fixes.

Leadership & Enablement
Act as technical authority for cloud decisions.
Review and approve designs from engineers and vendors.
Mentor platform, SRE, and infrastructure teams.
Push back on bad ideas — even from management.

Required Skills & Experience
Core Technical Skills
Strong Linux fundamentals.
Deep understanding of:
Virtualization and cloud platforms
Networking (routing, switching, load balancing)
Storage architectures
Hands-on Kubernetes experience.
Solid automation and scripting skills.

Requirements

7+ years in infrastructure, cloud, or platform engineering.
Proven experience designing production-grade cloud platforms.
Experience operating large-scale systems.
