Civil Structural Engineer
TLDR
The Civil Structural Engineer will design wind turbine foundations, solar piles, and provide engineering support for renewable energy projects across multiple regions.
- Design wind turbine foundations (both gravity base and rock anchor), using a combination of first principals calculations and FEA software.
- Design solar pile foundations.
- Provide review and feedback to designs produced by others.
- Ensure code compliance, in particular CSA in Canada, ACI in USA, and Eurocode in Europe.
- Identify and help manage project risks through early‑stage engineering review and input.
- Coordinate specialist inputs, such as surveys, geotechnical work, and other engineering discipline design, required to inform engineering decisions.
- Provide practical engineering advice to project teams on matters affecting safety, quality, cost, and programme during project development.
- Review third party engineering deliverables for accuracy and consistency.
- Develop efficient and cost‑effective design solutions and propose process improvements where applicable.
- Promote consistent practices across projects by applying established processes, guidance and best practice.
- Structural engineering – wind turbine foundation and/or solar pile design experience would be an advantage.
- General civil engineering principles as they affect project development.
- Relevant engineering codes (Eurocodes, ACI and/or CSA) – appreciation of more than one code would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of UK CDM Regulations 2015 or Irish Construction Regulations 2013.
- Understanding of cross-functional project requirements and priorities – broad appreciation of renewable energy technologies and projects (development, construction and/or operation) would be an advantage.
- Commercial awareness relating to contract compliance, cost control and relative value of engineering solutions.
- Good time management skills to balance priorities across projects.
- Works collaboratively, within and across project functions.
- Presentation skills to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail during preparation and review of engineering deliverables.
- Practical application of structural engineering knowledge to civil engineering projects.
- Experience of the use of FEA software would be an advantage.
- Management of health and safety in design, including risk mitigation.
- Development and implementation of new processes and technology.
- Honours degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Eligible to progress towards CEng status through the Institution of Civil Engineers is preferred
