This is a Summer 2026 internship to support Scout’s engineering and preconstruction efforts. A successful candidate will leverage their engineering, research, and design skills to identify better approaches to common challenges faced in the utility-scale renewable energy industry. This internship includes the opportunity to work closely with the engineering and preconstruction teams but also members of many different departments at Scout.

Scout’s Engineering team aims to improve design capabilities and increase design capacity. To expedite code studies, the candidate will create a Federal, State, and Local database of Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and compile code requirements from historical and current projects.

Additionally, the candidate will perform civil designs for utility scale solar and wind projects utilizing established methods as well as trial new software to enhance the design process.  By the end of this internship, you will have a deeper understanding of the overall project design and development process for utility-scale renewable energy projects.

The results of the candidate’s efforts will provide lasting impact for Scout since they will inform decisions about projects that Scout designs to last for 20+ years.

Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to shadow team members during meetings and other training opportunities to provide additional insight into key industry trends and challenges.

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an accredited college or university majoring in technical disciplines such as Engineering, Physics, Math, or another STEM field.
  • Interest in the renewable energy industry.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality deliverables.
  • Dynamic verbal and written communication skills that are appropriate for a professional setting.
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision.

 

Timeline and Location

This position will begin May, 2026. The internship will be a full-time (40 hr/week) commitment for the duration of the 12-week internship program. The candidate preferably can work out of the Scout Boulder office for the duration of the internship program per the program requirements.

Compensation

Hourly Rate: $25-30/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
