Chief of Staff

TLDR

Work directly with the CEO to develop and operationalize company strategy, driving measurable outcomes and fostering a culture of analytical rigor and accountability across the leadership team.

About David Energy

David Energy is creating a new kind of power company. We offer cheaper and cleaner energy than traditional Retail Electricity Providers (REPs) can, and we do so economically because we can tap into renewable supply (e.g. solar) and controllable capacity (e.g. batteries) anywhere it exists, including "behind" customers’ electricity meters. We’re a series A company aiming to run the grid on clean energy 24/7/365.

We’re rapidly scaling our "Beat the Utility" product which guarantees small commercial customers that their total electric spend will be less than their incumbent utility. We can make this guarantee because our technology and risk management unlock value that is not available to the utility. We're currently operating in NYC (NYISO Zone J) and scaling toward hundreds of new customer locations per month, with plans to expand to additional zones and ISOs across the Northeast.

About the Role

We are hiring a Chief of Staff based in NYC to work directly with the CEO to develop and operationalize our company strategy as we scale.

This role is the CEO’s closest partner in turning complex, often ambiguous strategic ideas into clear, measurable outcomes and execution plans the company can run on, then driving the work across the leadership team. This role will directly shape how David Energy thinks, decides, and executes.

This person is expected to be a scientific thinker and an exceptional writer. We are a documents and metrics-based culture in order to drive intellectual and analytical rigor in the decisions and plans we make.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner closely with the CEO to develop company strategy and translate it into clear documents and outcomes-driven plans

  • Use data, analytics, and structured reasoning to sharpen strategy, test assumptions, and evaluate tradeoffs

  • Lead quarterly and semi-annual planning cycles across the leadership team, including the development and refinement of company OKRs

  • Run the weekly executive projects meeting with a focus on outcomes, accountability, and signal over noise

  • Actively project-manage cross-functional initiatives by following up with leaders, closing loops, and removing blockers

  • Ensure the leadership team is consistently aligned and focused on the highest-impact priorities

  • Maintain and evolve core strategy, planning, and execution documents to ensure they reflect current realities and learnings

  • Establish and reinforce high standards for analytical thinking, decision framing, and written communication across the leadership team

  • Support other executives and functional leaders in crafting rigorous decision documents and project plans

  • Drive a culture of learning by incorporating retrospectives, post-mortems, and evidence-based iteration into planning and execution

  • Help leaders define clear operating metrics, success metrics, and feedback loops for strategic initiatives

  • Own key strategic projects end to end, from problem identification through execution

  • Over time, build and lead the strategy team to scale this capability as the company grows

What We’re Looking For

  • Deeply rigorous thinker with a scientific approach to strategy and problem-solving

  • Strong operator who enjoys translating strategy into execution and holding teams accountable to outcomes

  • Exceptional written communication skills, with a bias toward clarity and brevity

  • Highly analytical, with comfort leveraging data to inform decisions and challenge assumptions

  • Strong judgment, intellectual honesty, and the ability to influence without direct authority

  • Experience in strategy, operations, consulting, investing, or early-stage startups is a plus

Benefits

  • $170,000-190,000 plus equity, depending on experience

  • Group medical and dental insurance
