We are looking for a Chief Claims Officer Hamilton Select Insurance - U.S. E&S Claims.
A U.S. based role with a preference for candidates in Richmond, VA, or the central New Jersey area. This role will report to the CEO Hamilton Select ‘s U.S. Excess & Surplus (E&S) business. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader that is charged with Management and further buildout of Hamilton Select Claim’s Division in the U.S.
This role will focus on the effective and efficient management of claims arising out of Hamilton Select’s growing E&S segment. Coverages and lines of business will include General Liability, Products Liability, Excess Liability, Professional Liability, Allied Medical, Management Liability, Medical Professionals, and Property, along with other new products planned in the future.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing the U.S. E&S claims division, establishing and maintaining the strategy for claims management, and ensuring high-quality claim handling in jurisdictions throughout the United States.
What you will help us do
- Lead Hamilton Select’s ’s U.S. E&S Claims division providing oversight for all aspects of the claims process ensuring that claims are handled promptly and fairly in accordance with company policies and regulations.
- Set strategic direction for the claims division, aligning it with the overall business objectives, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Actuarial, and other stakeholders to ensure knowledge sharing on market trends, legal changes, portfolio management, and loss developments.
- Oversee reserve reviews and ensure timely and accurate reserving practices for claims. Identify opportunities for loss cost reduction and support strategies that result in improved financial outcomes.
- Instructing and managing outside lawyers and experts as necessary to assist in the determination of coverage or handling any dispute as they may arise, and supervise and analyze the effectiveness of panel counsel
- Use critical thinking skills to negotiate favorable claim outcomes consistent with coverage wording. Focus on cost containment strategies to effectively manage allocated and unallocated expenses.
- Ensure team compliance with applicable letters of claim authority as well as compliance with applicable state rules and regulations.
- Address claims staff talent management and succession planning in accordance with corporate strategic direction.
What you require for the role
- Experienced claims professional with a minimum of 12+ years of experience in the insurance industry handling coverage issues, commercial liability claims, and experience with oversight of commercial property claims a plus.
- 7+ years of demonstrated management experience leading a team of claims professionals in primary and excess.
- Broad experience with handling claims across various lines of business including, general/products liability, construction, excess liability, professional liability directors & officers, and other commercial lines of business.
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal), evaluating, influencing, negotiating, listening, and interpersonal skills to effectively develop productive working relationships with internal/external peers and other professionals across organizational lines.
- A shared focus on expense management and managing the overall business operations to maximize shareholder returns.
- Licenses in multiple jurisdictions. Applicants must possess or obtain proper and active adjuster licensing in all applicable states within three months of hire.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Juris Doctor strongly desired and/or relevant insurance claims experience
