Position Summary:

This role is responsible for the manufacturing of Controlled Pored Glass (CPG) materials by following established and robust protocols. This position will primarily work with solid phase chemistry that is used in oligo manufacturing.

CPG material manufacturing includes amine and nucleoside modification of native CPG at various angstrom sizes as well as modification with proprietary dyes and quenchers. The Chemist I will also be responsible for the upkeep of basic CPG equipment used in these processes.

Chemist Technician 1 and 2 designation is based off competency and experience level.

  • Perform assigned tasks using the established protocols and methods on the appropriate equipment and within the given final specifications and timeline.
  • Responsible for the manufacturing of robust protocols by demonstrating a working knowledge of routine tasks while supporting and collaborating with colleagues to ensure critical tasks are met.
  • Write and revise standard operating procedures according to LGC Quality guidelines.
  • Continuously replenish inventory of CPG products as assigned by Associate Supervisor.
  • Effectively communicate to ensure all equipment is functional and available for use and coordinate with CPG Manufacturing supervisor to ensure the most efficient use of time and resources. This includes making recommendations to supervisor as necessary regarding resources required to meet objectives and timelines.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and clean workspace.
  • Record real time data onto physical and electronic batch records following good documentation practices.
  • Comply with all company, departmental, regulatory policies and rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Physical Science with 0-2 years industry experience in a laboratory setting or 2-4 years of industry experience or equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrated proficiency to meet requirements of a Chemist Technician 1 and 2. 
  • Excellent understanding of laboratory, chemical and general safety practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Capable of running multiple reactions in process at any one time to efficiently produce requested materials and submit products by expected deadlines.
  • Adhere to company safety PPE policy.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Multi-tasker, flexible and proactive.
  • Good computer and data entry skills including use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and web browser(s).
  • Ability to remain calm in an emergency situation and help other employees.

  • Competent with chemical calculations for molarity, density, and use of the metric system.

The typical pay range for this role is:

Chemistry Technician 1 and 2 designation is based off competency and experience level.

Minimum: $ 22.35

Maximum: $37.25

This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for the California -based position.  The actual base salary will depend on several factors such as: experience, skills, and location.
