Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)
TLDR
Assist patients with daily living activities, take and record vital signs, and provide emotional support and companionship in a caring environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities (ADLs) such as:
- Bathing, dressing, grooming
- Eating and drinking
- Toileting and mobility (walking, transferring)
- Take and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration)
- Help patients with range-of-motion exercises
- Turn or reposition bedridden patients to prevent bedsores
- Assist with feeding and monitor food/liquid intake
- Maintain clean and safe patient environments
- Respond to patient call lights and requests promptly
- Provide emotional support and companionship
Additional Duties
- Document patient information and report changes to nursing staff
- Assist with medical procedures (as directed)
- Transport patients within a facility
- Stock supplies and clean equipment
Requirements
- Completion of a state-approved CNA training program
- Passing a competency exam to become certified
- Basic life support (CPR) certification (often required)
