Job Overview:
You will join the Actuarial and Technical Committee (ATC) of the CERN Pension Fund as one of its external professional experts. In this role, you will contribute to the oversight of the Fund’s actuarial matters by reviewing periodic actuarial valuations, monitoring the Fund’s funding status and advising the Pension Fund Governing Board (PFGB) on measures aimed at securing full funding. You will also assist in proposing the Actuary for appointment by the PFGB and provide expert input within the governance framework established for the Fund. Members of the ATC are appointed for a three-year term, renewable once.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You typically attend four ATC meetings per year (including one joint meeting with the PFGB), with additional meetings or conference calls scheduled if required. These meetings last at least half a day and take place at CERN, or exceptionally by videoconference.
  • You may contribute to temporary working groups established from time to time, where progress is required between ATC meetings.
  • You act in the best interests of the Fund and abide by the CERN Code of Conduct and the Pension Fund Implementation Guidelines.

Your Profile:

  • Substantial experience of overseeing the liabilities and assets of large defined pension funds, or comparable long-term institutional investors, such as endowments, foundations, and sovereign wealth funds.
  • Academic and/or professional qualifications, along with expertise in some or all of the following areas.

  • Pension scheme benefits and rules
  • Actuarial science and valuation methods
  • Funding strategies and long-term financial sustainability 
  • Pension scheme administration and operations 
  • Financial reporting and auditing 
  • Risk management
