Duties and Role

You will be under the administrative control of the Service Delivery Manager of INF023 (Contingency Network) within the Section of Innovation, Deployable and Engineering / Operation and Exercises (ID&E OPEX) and will perform the following duties:

  • Design and document complex enterprise network infrastructures, ensuring alignment with organizational architecture standards and operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive network design documentation, topology diagrams, and configuration baselines for all managed environments.
  • Keep the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) accurate and up to date, reflecting all physical and logical network assets, configurations, and interdependencies.
  • Collaborate with engineering, service delivery, and security teams to ensure that network documentation supports operational readiness, change management, and accreditation activities.
  • Review and validate network configurations and design changes to ensure compliance with approved architectures, security policies, and performance standards.
  • Implement and continuously improve network documentation practices, ensuring traceability, version control, and audit compliance.
  • Provide expert input to change management and design review boards, ensuring technical integrity and consistency across the enterprise.
  • Support automation and monitoring initiatives by integrating network configuration data with CMDB, orchestration, and asset management tools.
  • Ensure the update of network configuration management databases in accordance with the service request requirements and internal policies/priorities
  • Release the circuit and service orders and follow their implementation when required
  • Interface to the CIS community for service configuration and request management issues
  • Update existing, or create new, documentation for the maintained solutions, Standard Operating Procedures, User Guides
  • Support the provision of network services to NATO deployable/mobile CIS infrastructure in accordance with NATO standards
  • Provide internal/external training related to the Area of Responsibility when required

Requirements

  • NATO Cosmic Top Secret security clearance
  • Higher vocational training in a relevant discipline with 5 years post-related experience or a secondary educational qualification with 7 years post-related experience.

In addition to at least 5 years' post related experience you will demonstrate:

  • At least five years' of extensive experience in network architecture and design, including development of detailed technical designs, implementation plans, and network documentation for complex, multi-site infrastructures.
  • At least five years' operation and configuration experience of Network Automation or equivalent network automation and orchestration systems
  • At least five years' developing the network documentation
  • Proven record of accomplishment in maintaining and managing network configuration databases (CMDB) and related documentation repositories, ensuring full accuracy, version control, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse, document, and update network topologies, configurations, and dependencies across physical and virtual environments.
  • A minimum of three years' experience with the configuration and operation of Network Monitoring Systems (CA Spectrum) and Event Management systems
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management tools and methodologies, ensuring alignment between as-built and as designed network states.
  • Strong understanding of change management and lifecycle processes, ensuring traceability of configuration changes within secure networks.
  • Experienced in developing and enforcing network documentation standards, templates, and naming conventions to ensure consistency, audit readiness, and interoperability across engineering teams and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in integrating network design and configuration data with automation, monitoring, and IT service management systems, enabling accurate asset visibility and efficient change control.
  • Shall have general understanding of TCP/IP and routing protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), transmission protocol MPLS-TE, collaboration services Voice/Video and network security concepts
  • Experience in Service Management processes for Incident Management Change Management and Service Fulfilment
  • Experience in customer support
  • Experience of preparing Standard Operating Procedures
