OVERVIEW

CNBC International is seeking a sharp, driven Business News Reporter to cover the biggest corporate stories shaping the global business landscape and markets, with an emphasis on Asia. Based in Singapore, you will sit at the heart of CNBC’s digital newsroom, delivering fast, authoritative reporting on breaking business news from across Asia, with a focus on major companies, key sectors, and market-moving developments.

In this role, you will be expected to break news, deliver sharp analysis, and help explain why business stories matter to investors, executives, and a global professional audience, in a variety of formats, including digital, TV and social media.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report on major corporate and sector developments across Asia, placing company news within broader market, economic, and policy context.
  • Cover earnings, strategy shifts, leadership changes, and industry trends for Asia’s biggest companies and sectors, with clarity and authority.
  • Report and conduct interviews on the ground, including covering earnings calls, press briefings, and major regional events, and file quickly and accurately under deadline pressure.
  • Deliver fast, accurate reporting on major corporate developments that move markets, while providing authoritative context on why they matter to investors.
  • Develop and maintain strong sources across the corporate, financial, and policy landscape to generate original reporting and exclusive stories.
  • Produce clear, insightful analysis and explainers on the significance of Asian corporate developments, including features that add context and value beyond the headlines, bringing clarity to complex stories that drive subscriber value.
  • Work closely with TV, digital originals, newsletter, and audience development teams to ensure seamless multi-platform coverage.
  • Use analytics and audience insights to guide coverage decisions and maximize reach and engagement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across APAC, EMEA and the U.S., to deliver cohesive global business coverage.
  • Adhere to CNBC’s editorial, legal, and ethical standards, including responsible handling of sensitive, market-moving information and rigorous source protection.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong news judgment and the ability to identify corporate stories with global relevance.
  • Proven ability to break news and develop sources within the corporate and financial world.
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to make complex technology and business issues accessible and engaging.
  • Familiarity with Asia’s corporate landscape and key industries, including the tech ecosystem, major companies, startups, and regulators.
  • Deep understanding of AI, big tech, fintech, venture capital and their growing influence on the world.
  • Understanding of digital publishing, SEO, and multi-platform storytelling.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom, making sharp editorial calls under pressure and collaborating across teams and time zones.

 

DESIRED ATTRIBUTES  

While not essential for this role, candidates with experience or proficiency in the following attributes tend to excel in this position. 

  • Three (3) or more years of experience working for a leading business news website or publication
  • Prior experience working with digital media and content management systems
