The Opportunity:

We are seeking a self-motivated, confident Business Development Manager to sell on our market leading events and lead sponsorship sales on an exciting new initiative. 

DTX Manchester is the leading tech event for the region and plays host to leading tech brands.  As business development manager you will be responsible for a dedicated tech area within the show.  You will also lead sales on our Manchester Tech Week brand, a city-wide festival of tech that plays host to some 60 fringe events.

You will take charge of delivering the sales plan and ensuring that your areas achieve their target revenue.  The successful candidate will be one who relishes spotting new opportunities and seeking out new business, whilst ensuring that the needs of our long-term clients are met.

To be successful in this role you will be a naturally effective and engaging communicator, getting the benefits of our products across to clients succinctly.  Due to the development nature of the role, 70% of your time will be dedicated to new business sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading sponsorship sales on our Manchester Tech Week brand.
  • Selling sponsorship and exhibition space on our market leading DTX Manchester event.
  • Meeting (and exceeding) sales targets on the above events through:
    • Prospecting for new business leads that fit the event profiles
    • Responding to enquiries to maximise inbound opportunities
    • Managing existing and lapsed accounts
  • Managing your own pipeline and producing accurate forecasts.
  • Sell a range of products including high value sponsorships, networking meetings, dinners and stands.
  • Managing your clients onsite at the events to ensure that they have the best possible outcomes.
  • Attending competitive industry events to prospect for new business, meet existing clients and gain market/competitor knowledge.
  • Meet key clients face to face to develop strong relationships, understand their needs and how these can be achieved through our events.
  • Taking part in project meetings and providing input to help improve outcomes for all stakeholders in the event.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Behaviours:

  • Demonstrable success in a previous sponsorship and exhibition sales role with track record of winning new business.
  • Utilises CRM systems (e.g. Salesforce) to their full ability to drive sales, planning and reporting.
  • Excels in face-to-face and phone selling, presenting products and their benefits to clients.
  • Confident in generating new business leads from cold calling, personal research and industry networking.
  • Excellent communication skills and telephone manner with the ability to create engaging proposals that meet prospects needs.
  • Demonstrates strong understnding of the sales process.
  • Highly motivated, ambitious, and constantly striving for excellence and success.
  • Customer focused and understands how to build and maintain relationships (both for account management and up-selling purposes).
  • Works well within a team and relishes being part of the sales team delivering excellent outcomes for your customers.
  • Knowledge of tech markets is advantageous.
