Business Analyst (Tech Enabled)

Position Overview (Contractor role with PetroChina)

We are seeking a Business Analyst with strong business understanding and sufficient technical capability to support solution analysis and delivery. This role focuses on identifying business problems, shaping practical solutions, and working closely with technical teams to ensure effective implementation.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong commercial awareness, structured thinking, and the ability to work with data and systems when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Gather and analyze business needs, processes, and pain points across stakeholders.
• Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications for implementation.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and system efficiency.
• Collaborate with development teams throughout solution design and delivery.
• Support testing, validation, and rollout of system enhancements.
• Investigate issues by reviewing system data and behavior, and coordinate resolution.
• Ensure delivered solutions are aligned with business priorities and operational practicality.
• Leverage AI tools (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copolit) for prototyping and proof of concept

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a local university or equivalent qualification.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Strong business acumen with the ability to understand and contextualize business problems.
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured approach.
• Hands-on ability to work with data (e.g., SQL) for analysis and validation.
• Basic scripting or coding capability (e.g., Python) to support analysis or troubleshooting.
• Ability to interpret system logs and perform independent issue analysis.
• Effective communication skills to engage both business and technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in one or more of the following domains:
  Commodities trading
  Risk management / control systems
  Financial or accounting systems
• Familiarity with enterprise platforms (e.g., ERP, ETRM).
• Exposure to AI-assisted tools for analysis or development is a plus.
• Experience in complex or large-scale business environments.
