Biomedical Scientist - Histology

Unilabs is seeking a skilled and experienced Biomedical Scientist - Histology to join our team. As a Biomedical Scientist you will be responsible for assisting in the smooth running of the laboratory and providing a high-quality histopathology service. You will work closely with the Histology Manager and other histology staff to ensure the timely and accurate processing of specimens and the delivery of results within agreed turnaround times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Receipt, booking in, and processing of specimens
  • Cut-up, staining, and dispatching of specimens
  • Quality control and accuracy of work output
  • Archiving of samples
  • Participation in training courses and continuing professional development
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations and safe laboratory procedures
  • Specimen dissection (subject to competency and training)

To be successful in this role, you must be a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and a member of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences. You should have previous experience working in a histology laboratory and possess strong knowledge of histological techniques. Proficiency in microtomy and embedding is required. Additionally, you should have at least 2 years of post-state registration experience and be familiar with laboratory-based IT systems. Experience of accreditation is preferred.

Requirements

  • HCPC registered BMS and member of Institute of Biomedical Sciences
  • Previous experience in a histology laboratory
  • Microtomy and embedding experience
  • 2 years post-state registration experience
  • Good knowledge of histological techniques
  • Familiarity with laboratory-based IT systems
  • Experience of accreditation preferred
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Commitment to personal CPD
  • Maintain total confidentiality with regards to patient's details
