Overview

We are seeking a BESS Electrical Engineer with strong hands‑on experience in battery systems and ERCOT grid operations. The ideal candidate will bridge technical operations and commercial requirements, ensuring our utility‑scale BESS assets perform safely, reliably, and in line with contractual obligations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day‑to‑day technical oversight of utility‑scale LFP BESS assets, including performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of plant operation.
  • Own the detailed understanding of LFP cell, rack, and container behavior, including degradation mechanisms, operating limits, and optimal charging/discharging strategies.
  • Configure, review, and tune site control parameters (plant controller, PCS, BMS interfaces) to ensure safe operation, grid compliance, and adherence to performance guarantees.
  • Experience with commissioning, performance testing, or root‑cause analysis of BESS or inverter‑based resources.
  • Familiarity with ERCOT interconnection and market rules relevant to battery storage (e.g. telemetry, performance testing).
  • Experience with high‑voltage substations, protection schemes, and grid‑code compliance for inverter‑based resources.
  • Support ERCOT market integration of BESS assets, including understanding of applicable protocols, participation models, and operational constraints.
  • Translate contractual requirements (EPC, OEM, interconnection, offtake, performance guarantees, warranties) into clear technical work structures, procedures, and acceptance/validation tests.
  • Develop and maintain operating procedures, MOPs/EOPs, and runbooks for both normal and abnormal operating conditions, aligned with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze site data (SCADA, historian, event logs) to identify performance gaps, root‑cause recurring issues, and recommend corrective actions for LFP batteries and control systems.
  • Collaborate with EPCs, OEMs, control vendors, and SCADA providers to implement control logic changes, firmware upgrades, and performance improvements.
  • Provide technical input into outage planning, maintenance strategies, and lifecycle planning for LFP BESS assets.
  • Support internal and external stakeholders by preparing clear technical documentation, reports, and presentations on system performance and compliance.

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Controls, or related engineering field (Master’s preferred).
  • Minimum 4+ years of direct experience with LFP‑based battery energy storage systems at utility or large C&I scale.
  • Demonstrated experience working with BESS assets in ERCOT (planning, interconnection, operations, or market participation).
  • Strong understanding of LFP battery operations, including SoC/SoH management, thermal management, protection, and safety concepts.
  • Hands‑on experience with site control systems (plant controller, PCS controls, BMS, SCADA), including reviewing setpoints, control modes, and coordination between devices.
  • Ability to interpret and operationalize contractual documents (EPC contracts, OEM warranties, performance guarantees, availability and RTE requirements) into practical workflows and KPIs.
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Python, or similar) for analyzing operational and performance data.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally with operations, commercial, legal, and external partners.
  • Embrace and live by the mission and values of Cypress Creek Renewables

Personal Attributes

  • Structured, detail‑oriented, and comfortable translating high‑level requirements into actionable work plans.
  • Proactive problem solver who can work independently in a fast‑moving environment.
