Beekeeper Contractor, San Francisco Bay Area (Presenter / Hive Technician, Flexible 1099)
TLDR
Deliver interactive presentations about bees and sustainable practices or provide hands-on maintenance for BeehHomes, enhancing community awareness and supporting ecosystems.
Help people fall in love with bees.
Bees for Buildings is a program by Beewise, an ag-tech company that builds AI-automated BeeHomes housing multiple honeybee colonies. We partner with companies, schools, and organizations to place hives on their properties, creating healthier ecosystems, engaging communities, and supporting pollinators.
We currently have 9 to 12 active BeehHomes in the Bay Area, with more on the way, and we are building a national network of experienced beekeepers to grow with us.
This is a flexible, paid 1099 contractor role.
We have two tracks and you can apply for one or both depending on your strengths and interests.
The Two Roles:
#1 - Presenter and Event Host (people-facing)
You will deliver live, interactive presentations about bees, pollination, and sustainability at the sites where our BeehHomes are placed. Audiences range from schoolchildren to corporate teams to community groups. If you have ever found yourself naturally teaching the room, simplifying complex ideas, or holding a crowd with your energy, this is your track.
# 2: Hive Technician (field-based, no public events required)
You will provide hands-on care and maintenance for our BeehHomes on a flexible, as-needed basis. This includes hive inspections, colony health checks, and occasional installation support. If you prefer to keep your head down and work with the bees rather than the crowds, this is your track.
#3: Both!
What We Need From Everyone (Both Tracks)
- Hands-on beekeeping experience is required. This is non-negotiable.
- You must have owned and managed your own hives or maintained hives professionally for others. We can teach you our technology. We cannot teach beekeeping.
- Comfortable working around live bee colonies
- Reliable, professional, and self-directed
- Based in or near the San Francisco Bay Area
- Valid U.S. work authorization
Presenter Track: Additional Strengths We Are Looking For
- Experience teaching, presenting, or leading groups (educator, naturalist, guide, trainer, etc.)
- Ability to adapt your delivery to any audience, from kids to executives
- Passion for bees, sustainability, or environmental science that comes through when you speak
- Background in education, environmental programs, or science communication is a plus
