Baggage Handling System Associates are responsible for removing items that cause jams and will be required to perform physical baggage handling in the event of system failures. Other responsibilities include inducting, scanning, clearing, and monitoring bags to keep them flowing properly. The MES (Manual Encoding System) Operator and Bag Jam Operators report to the Operations Supervisor and System Operator Controllers and will be required to report consistent baggage jams that occur on the conveyor belts and on the sorting system. This role ison-site in the Calgary Airport. 

Must be able to work rotating shifts; including nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary function is to induct bags onto the Baggage System Via the in-feeds in a methodical and procedural manner.
  • Ensure smooth running of systems by attending to jams IMMEDIATELY and also making sure the system is not damaged after removing items that caused jam.
  • To monitor and clear any blockages that prevents the flow of baggage.
  • To hand scan every bag and to fall back to keyboard mode if bags are not scanning then promptly following up with the Control Room.
  • Physical baggage handling in the event of system failures.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced airport environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and variable temperatures.
  • Frequent walking and standing throughout large airport facilities.
  • Baggage sorting work and experience in material handling equipment preferred but not required.
  • Technical Certificate
  • RAIC Security Clearance, or the ability to obtain such clearance
  • Ability to comprehend strategy insights and values
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Prior experience in baggage handling or airport operations is an asset but not required.
