The Position
The Backend Integration Engineer is the technical engine of our Data Professional Services team, reporting to the Manager of Solutions. This role focuses on the hands-on development and deployment of secure, scalable data pipelines. Working from requirements defined by our Data Analysts, you will build the "plumbing" that connects systems, ensuring data flows accurately and efficiently through every stage of the integration.
Whether writing custom Node.js logic, developing complex SQLs, stored procedures, or leveraging messaging layers, you are comfortable working "under the hood" to solve the nuances of large-scale data migration and real-time synchronization
**This opening is for UK timezone to overlap UK and morning hours of US**
What you will do:
Work closely with Customers and internal teams to design, configure, and help test Integration/Migration projects.
Development & Engineering
- Pipeline Development: Design and build data pipelines using the most efficient method available—whether that is custom Node.js scripts, messaging layers, or established ETL platforms.
- API & Connectivity Implementation: Develop and manage connections to various client systems via APIs (REST/SOAP), webhooks, file transfers (SFTP), and direct database connections.
- Data Transformation Coding: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code/logic to perform complex data transformations, cleansing, and enrichment as specified in the Data Mapping Document.
- SQL Mastery: Write, optimize, and execute SQL queries involving complex joins, stored procedures, and data manipulation necessary for data extraction, staging, and loading.
Testing & Troubleshooting
- Unit & Integration Testing: Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for all integration components to ensure data flows correctly and meets performance benchmarks.
- System Troubleshooting: Act as the Tier 2/Tier 3 technical responder for integration failures, performance bottlenecks, and data error resolution, working closely with the Data Analyst to diagnose root causes.
- Performance Tuning: Proactively identify and implement optimizations for integration performance, especially around high-volume data scenarios.
Documentation & Standards
- Technical Documentation: Create and maintain detailed Integration Design Documents (IDD), configuration manuals, runbooks, and system interaction diagrams.
-
Standards Enforcement: Ensure all developed solutions adhere to organizational security standards, coding best practices, and the technical guidelines established by the team's foundational playbook.
What you will bring to the role:
- Experience:3 years of hands-on experience in software development or dedicated data engineering/ETL roles.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Javascript (Nodejs), Python, .net core and advanced SQL.
- Integration Mechanism Expertise: Proven experience working with APIs (understanding authentication, payload structure, error handling), ETL/iPaaS tools and database management.
- Analytical & Problem Solving: Strong debugging skills and the ability to trace data flow through complex, multi-step processes.
- System Understanding: Ability to read and understand database schemas, object models, and technical specifications quickly
- Domain Knowledge: Understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL/ELT principles, and data quality dimensions.
- Bachelors or equivalent work experience. Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or related field preferred
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a time-sensitive, deadline driven environment and prioritize accordingly
- Experience with either supporting, contributing or managing Financial Systems is preferred, but not required
