About the Role: We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer with strong experience in PHP and Laravel to help design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable server-side applications. This role plays a key part in ensuring system performance, stability, and long-term maintainability across a growing digital health ecosystem. You will take ownership of backend services and APIs, troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize database performance, and contribute to architectural decisions. Working in a remote-first and fast-paced environment, you’ll collaborate closely with frontend developers, product managers, QA engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality software efficiently. This role is ideal for a mid-level engineer who is detail-oriented, enjoys solving challenging technical problems, and thrives in collaborative environments while maintaining strong autonomy. Must Have:

3+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel

Solid knowledge of SQL databases (PostgreSQL preferred)

Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs

Ability to write automated API tests

Experience with Git and collaborative workflows (GitHub)

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines

Experience with Docker

Familiarity with AWS or other cloud environments

Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Rollbar, CloudWatch)

Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills

Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Nice to Have:

Experience in healthcare or telehealth environments

Experience optimizing legacy systems

Exposure to scalable distributed architectures

Familiarity with performance monitoring and observability best practices
