Our client in the global professional services industry is looking for an Automation Engineer – OpenShift to join their team in Sheffield on a hybrid basis. This role will focus on automating repeatable tasks such as cluster provisioning, scaling, and patching within enterprise OpenShift environments, ensuring operational efficiency, consistency, and compliance through robust automation frameworks and tools. The position requires close collaboration with infrastructure and platform teams and plays a key role in supporting enterprise DevOps and CI/CD practices.

What you will do:

  • Design and implement automation scripts and workflows for OpenShift cluster provisioning, scaling, and patching.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams to identify automation opportunities and standardize processes.
  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code templates using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or similar technologies.
  • Integrate automation solutions into CI/CD pipelines to support deployment and platform maintenance.
  • Monitor automation jobs, troubleshoot failures, and maintain performance and reliability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for automation processes and deliver knowledge sharing and training sessions when required.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory standards across all automation activities.
  • Continuously improve automation frameworks through adoption of emerging technologies and DevOps best practices.
  • Strong experience in automation engineering for infrastructure and container platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and Bash, and configuration management tools including Ansible or Puppet.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems, networking concepts, and security principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Must be eligible for BPSS clearance.
