The opportunity
We’re looking for an Automation Engineer to help Kin eliminate manual processes and scale smarter internal operations through automation and custom-built tools. This role exists to solve real business problems by designing efficient, reliable workflows that connect systems, data, and teams across the company.

You’ll partner closely with Software Engineering, Data, DevOps, Product, and operational teams to turn complex requirements into practical, scalable solutions. As Kin continues to grow, this role plays a critical part in improving speed, accuracy, and visibility across business-critical processes.

Your responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own scalable automation solutions that improve efficiency across business and operational teams

  • Develop and maintain internal applications using tools such as Retool and workflow automation platforms

  • Build and manage automated workflows that integrate databases, APIs, and third-party systems

  • Own and optimize PostgreSQL database structures to support applications and automation use cases

  • Integrate with internal and external APIs to enable seamless data flow between systems

  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve business-critical automations and applications

  • Stay current on platform capabilities and share knowledge to improve team-wide automation practices

  • Manual, error-prone processes have been replaced with reliable, scalable automation used consistently across teams

  • Internal tools and workflows are stable, well-documented, and trusted by stakeholders

  • Cross-functional partners experience faster turnaround times and clearer visibility into automated processes

Your experience & skills

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or automation-focused development roles

  • Hands-on experience building applications with Retool or similar internal tooling platforms

  • Strong SQL skills, with experience using PostgreSQL or comparable relational databases

  • Working knowledge of JavaScript for both front-end and back-end use cases
    Experience integrating and consuming APIs within applications and automated workflows

  • Familiarity with version control tools such as GitHub in a collaborative development environment

  • Ability to translate business requirements into clear, actionable technical solutions

Nice to have:

  • Experience with serverless tools such as AWS Lambda

  • Familiarity with Databricks or similar data platforms

  • Experience with database migration services (DMS)

  • Integrations with CRM or customer communication tools (e.g., HubSpot, Regal, Twilio)

  • Exposure to observability tools such as Datadog

  • Background in the insurance or fintech industry
