AI overview

Play a critical role in enhancing the skills of Divers through innovative training programs and business interventions, while aligning initiatives with organizational goals.

Real opportunities. Real impact. Your career, redefined.

At Oceans, we help the best and brightest Sri Lankans to take advantage of opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available to them, while supporting entrepreneurs around the world. We call our Sri Lankan talent Divers, for their ability to go deep and solve problems.

The Associate Trainer will play a key role in executing Oceans’ training and development strategy.

This role will focus on designing, delivering, and continuously improving learning programs to enhance the skills and readiness of Divers at different career levels and across different specialities (Personal Assistant, Executive Assistant, Marketing Operations, Business Operations, Chief of Staff, etc).

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in adult learning methodologies, instructional design, and coaching, ensuring all training initiatives align with business objectives and individual career progression.

Accountability

You will have four primary focus areas, with the expectation that you will be measured on your ability to minimize Diver-related client churn. That means:

Design & Delivery of Learning Programs:

  • Develop and facilitate engaging training programs across both virtual and in-person formats.
  • Customize training modules to cater to different Diver levels and career pathways.
  • Create interactive learning experiences using modern instructional design principles and digital learning tools.
  • Continuously update training content to align with industry trends, client expectations, and performance insights.

Business Interventions & Skill Development:

  • Conduct one-on-one coaching and group business-focused learning sessions to support Diver development and career progression.
  • Identify skill gaps and create personalized learning plans for Divers to enhance readiness for client placement.
  • Partner with the Pod Leaders and Integration Teams to ensure smooth transitions from training to client integration.

Assessment & Continuous Improvement:

  • Design and implement assessment tools to measure training effectiveness and learner progress.
  • Gather feedback from participants and stakeholders to refine training programs.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to continuously improve learning experiences and outcomes.

Collaboration & Knowledge Management:

  • Support the development and expansion of the Lighthouse Library as a centralized learning resource.
  • Work closely with the Head of Diver Success to align learning initiatives with Oceans’ overall talent development strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure training aligns with business objectives and client needs.

Colleagues

Your primary partners will be the Divers themselves. Internally, you’ll work closely with our Training, HR, and Integration teams to help our clients get the most from the Oceans talent network. Where it makes sense to expand our relationship, you’ll also work with our Integration team to ensure the best Diver-Client relationship ensues.

While working cross-functionally, this role reports to our Head of Training

Skills and Qualifications

At Oceans, we believe in T-shaped people with one area of deep vertical expertise and broad horizontal interests. As a Learning & Development Partner / Trainer, the legs of your T should be in deeply understanding the needs of both Divers & Clients and making sure those needs are clearly addressed and accurately communicated through our Learning & Development strategy. Your arms should extend to an understanding of how our Clients’ businesses function, how Oceans can grow and develop employees, and where global talent fits into that growth. Previous experience working with global talent, business operations, and client-facing roles will be an asset.

Diversity of experience is core to Oceans. You are expected to be able to manage, work with, and serve people from a broad range of backgrounds in an inclusive manner that supports both individual and collective dignity.

The interview process will include opportunities to demonstrate skills in each of the following areas:

  • Growth mindset: How successful have you been in transforming (as opposed to transacting) strategy into execution?
  • Planning and prioritization:
    1. How effectively can you define goals, break down complex tasks, and assess their importance and urgency to create organized, realistic timelines?
    2. How adept are you at allocating resources, anticipating obstacles, monitoring progress, and communicating changes to ensure successful project completion?
  • Business acumen: Are you aware of key business issues? How have you applied that knowledge and the confidence to take action informed by past experiences?
  • Collaboration / Stakeholder management: Do internal teams feel you understand what they do and how to interface with them, including where you will take ownership and where you will collaborate?

Employment Details

This is a hybrid role and you should expect to be in-person roughly 1 to 2 days a week in Colombo. Information about our benefits and compensation philosophy, along with an opportunity to update our understanding of both market and individual factors, will be available during our offer process.
