We are looking for an Associsate Research Analyst to join our Research Operations team in Penang. 

Purpose of role:

An Associate Research Analyst is responsible for identifying, collecting, and managing large sets of data to support the research needs of the business in developing and maintaining research products. They play a critical role in the data lifecycle by ensuring accurate, timely, and efficient data gathering from various sources, including paid sources, online platforms, and internal databases. This position requires proficiency in data management tools and a strong understanding of data integrity and quality assurance practices.

Building strong and productive relationships with key stakeholders within the Intelligence & Advisory (I&A) division, particularly in I&A Operations & Commercial Analysts, is essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and cleanse data from various sources to ensure high quality and accuracy, while validating incoming data to meet established standards and criteria.
  • Conduct data profiling to identify and resolve data integrity issues, and maintain thorough documentation of data sources, extraction processes, and flow diagrams.
  • Utilize ETL-based tools for data acquisition, processing, and ingestion.
  • Schedule and manage data acquisition to ensure timely data availability.
  • Utilize web scraping tools for automated data collection from external sources.
  • Leverage AI tools to be more efficient in data acquisition.
  • Troubleshoot and correct data inconsistencies and discrepancies.
  • Effectively manage issue escalations, adopting appropriate escalation pathways with minimum supervision.
  • Anticipation, early detection, prevention, and management of risks and issues impacting deliverables and research process.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies in data acquisition and analysis.
  • Clear communication of research methods and processes ensures clients understand how data was collected and analyzed.
  • Take ownership of assigned project tasks and proactively engage with all stakeholders to ensure effective communication.
  • Understanding and commitment to Research & Analytics goals, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in data acquisition, sourcing, or related roles.
  • Mandarin is an advantage. 
  • Familiar with ETL tools and techniques such as Alteryx, Azure, AWS, MySQL, MS SQL, SQLite, and Postman.
  • Familiar with AI tools and their capabilities.
  • Good understanding of data management and metadata.
  • Experience with data profiling and data quality assessment.
  • Familiarity with APIs and web scraping tools for data collection.
  • Intermediate proficiency in programming languages such as SQL & Python.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Knowledgeable in cloud-based data storage solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) is advantageous.
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in relevant technology is preferred.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with new technologies and industry trends.
