AI overview

Take ownership of specific areas in our NetSuite product, leading projects to enhance the efficiency and scalability of Backcountry's core operations within a challenging, fast-paced team.
At Backcountry, our mission is to connect people to their passions. Our four online stores—Backcountry, Competitive Cyclist, MotoSport and, SteepandCheap—aim to supply our customers with the gear, knowledge, and inspiration necessary to get out there and chase down life’s greatest moments. We do this by providing the biggest and best assortment of premium outdoor products, superior shopping experience, personalized Gearhead expertise, lightning-fast and accurate fulfillment, and inspirational, informative, and community-centered content. We are looking for an Associate Product Manager to join the ERP and Merchandising Product Team at Backcountry. The ERP and Merchandising Product Team sits at the heart of Backcountry’s business systems, making it easier for teams across Fulfillment, Accounting, Finance, Buying, Planning, Merchandising, and eCommerce to run and grow the business. As an Associate Product Manager on this team, you will focus on specific areas in our NetSuite product while gradually taking ownership of a sub-domain and leading small projects with increasing autonomy over time. You will blend internal product management, light NetSuite configuration, and data-driven discovery in close partnership with Accounting, Buying, Planning, and Merch Ops to improve the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of Backcountry’s core operations. This role is challenging – above and beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll have a big role within a fast-paced team. This position will report into the Senior Product Manager. Role Summary:
  • Support the Sr Product Manager on the ERP & Merchandising Applications roadmap, with primary responsibility in NetSuite for procure-to-pay (purchase orders, receipts, and invoices) and a secondary focus on order-to-cash
  • Act as a key partner to Accounting, Buying, Planning, and Merch Ops, ensuring customizations and workflows in NetSuite support both daily operations and strategic initiatives
  • Perform light NetSuite configuration, basic analysis, and coordination with an internal engineering squad and other application owners (e.g., WMS, payment gateways) to deliver improvements
  • What you get to do:
  • Product discovery and requirements
  • Run structured intake for NetSuite enhancement requests and issues, with emphasis on purchase orders, receipts, and related inventory and financial impacts
  • Clarify problem statements with stakeholders, map current workflows, and document desired future state for procure-to-pay and order-to-cash processes
  • Write user stories, acceptance criteria, and lightweight process maps that engineering can execute against
  • Delivery and execution
  • Partner with the ERP and Merchandising engineering team to plan, build, and release changes to NetSuite customizations and configurations
  • Coordinate and sometimes execute UAT: define test cases, organize business testers, log and track defects, and validate that solutions meet requirements
  • As proficiency grows, independently run small projects end-to-end with periodic check-ins from the Sr PM
  • System configuration and data
  • Create and maintain saved searches, basic workflows, and fields in NetSuite under appropriate governance and controls
  • Use SQL and BI tools to pull and analyze data, quantify problem size and opportunity value, and monitor the impact of released changes
  • Stakeholder partnership and support
  • Serve as a go-to contact for Accounting, Buying, Planning, and Merch Ops for NetSuite questions in the procure-to-pay and order-to-cash space
  • Triage and prioritize production issues and small enhancements; ensure issues are clearly described, reproducible, and routed to the right technical owner
  • Communicate status, risks, and release timelines clearly; contribute to training materials and release notes for process or system changes
  • Growth and roadmap contribution
  • Develop a deep understanding of Backcountry’s procure-to-pay and order-to-cash flows and how they connect to upstream and downstream systems like WMS and payment gateways
  • Over time, own a focused sub-domain and shape backlog and roadmap priorities grounded in data and stakeholder input
  • Continuously propose and test improvements that reduce manual work, improve data quality, and improve financial accuracy and operational efficiency
  • What you bring:
  • 1–3 years of experience in product management, business systems analysis, finance/operations systems, or a similar role; experience with internal tools or ERP/financial systems is a strong plus
  • Familiarity with NetSuite or another ERP; comfort learning NetSuite concepts such as transactions, item records, vendors, workflows, and saved searches
  • Basic SQL skills and experience using BI tools to explore data, build simple reports, and support business cases and opportunity sizing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with cross-functional partners (e.g., Accounting, Buying, Planning, Operations) and an engineering team to deliver system changes
  • Familiarity with Agile practices and standard collaboration tools (e.g., Jira or similar, Confluence or similar, spreadsheets)
  • Work Style and Location
  • Hybrid role with a mix of on-site collaboration and remote work; specific office/location will be defined based on team needs
  • Ideal for an early-career product manager or systems-savvy operator eager to learn ERP and merchandising systems deeply, grow quickly, and step into more ownership over time
