Associate Payment Operations Specialist

Carry1st is building the dominant commerce platform for Africa and the Middle East helping global brands unlock hard-to-reach markets by enabling local payments, boosting digital sales, and simplifying settlements across 19 core African markets. The company has developed Pay1st, a proprietary payment engine, and the Carry1st Shop, a digital marketplace for virtual goods — partnering with companies like PayPal and Chipper Cash to expand digital payments across the continent.

As Associate Payment Operations Specialist, you’ll help keep our payment operations running smoothly day to day, ensuring transactions process reliably and our payment infrastructure performs at its best. You’ll monitor activity, spot and troubleshoot payment issues, and work closely with the Payment Operations team to improve processes and drive efficiency across the business.

You will...

• Play a crucial role in the day-to-day monitoring and tracking of payment transactions
• Assist in identifying payment issues, discrepancies, and potential risks, promptly escalating them for resolution
• Implement tactical changes to payment configurations to improve payment success rates
• Serve as the PayOps point of contact for the business, providing clear reporting on operational issues, insights, and trends
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address payment-related concerns 

Requirements

What makes you a great candidate?

• 1-2+ years in a Payment Operations role - ideally within an e-commerce company or a payment service provider (PSP). 
• Prior experience in Payment operations within e-commerce or within a high-volume environment
• Strong analytical skills across technical platforms and large datasets
• Detail-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
• Knowledge of payment trends and user interactions with the MENA and / or West Africa region
• Availability to work day or night shifts
