True Classic is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing the company’s accounting operations across our global omnichannel business. This role will play a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, efficient close processes, and strong internal controls as True Classic continues to scale rapidly across DTC, wholesale, and retail channels.

The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, excellent organizational ability, and the desire to grow into a leadership position within a high-performing finance team.

Note: This is a full-time, onsite role requiring in-office presence 5x per week at our Calabasas office.

Areas of Accountability 

Financial Reporting and Close

  • Support the Controller in managing monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with US GAAP and local statutory requirements across multiple entities.
  • Partner with FP&A and accounting leadership to ensure financial data integrity and reporting consistency.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Oversee day-to-day AP and AR operations, ensuring accurate invoice processing, payment runs, and collections.
  • Maintain proper approval workflows and ensure adherence to internal controls.
  • Partner with the Controller to optimize cash flow and vendor relationships.
  • Assist with revenue recognition reviews across eCommerce, wholesale, and retail channels.

General Accounting & Payroll

  • Manage key accounting areas such as accruals, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Support payroll accounting, employee expense reporting, and benefit reconciliations.
  • Ensure alignment between HRIS, ERP, and payroll systems for data consistency.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Partner with the Controller to enhance accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, FloQast) and process automation initiatives.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Identify and execute process improvements to increase close efficiency and accuracy.

Audit, Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare audit schedules and assist with annual audits and tax filings.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and consultants.
  • Maintain organized and audit-ready documentation across all accounting areas.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Serve as a key point of contact for onshore and offshore accounting team members.
  • Provide guidance, review work, and support training and development.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in retail, consumer goods, or eCommerce.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP, multi-entity consolidations, and intercompany accounting.
  • Experience managing AP, AR, and GL functions.
  • Strong systems experience with ERP tools (preferably NetSuite) and Excel/Google Sheets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work cross-functionally.
  • A proactive, “hands-on” mindset with a passion for improving processes and driving efficiency.
