Role Overview

The Assistant Controller provides detail-oriented and analytical support to the Controller and finance team within a fast-paced construction environment. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing timely reports, and supporting budgeting, cost tracking, and project accounting activities. The ideal candidate will bring strong financial acumen and a proactive approach to supporting day-to-day finance operations and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and year-end close, including consolidated financial statements
  • Analyze financial results against budgets and forecasts and provide variance insights
  • Support internal and external financial reporting and ad-hoc analysis
  • Assist with annual audit coordination and external auditor requests
  • Maintain compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls
  • Support development and maintenance of financial policies and controls
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, and working-capital management
  • Support cash-flow forecasting and financial planning
  • Complete statutory and company filings, including HST, payroll, and bank reporting
  • Identify and drive process improvements to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Support, mentor, and cross-train finance team members
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA designation preferred, or actively enrolled in the final stages of the CPA program
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience
  • Experience with full-cycle accounting or equivalent finance responsibilities, ideally in the construction or project-based environments
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting and controls
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
  • Effective leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
