Job Purpose

The Asset Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records and controls over inventory, fixed assets and company owned company operated sites.

The role ensures compliance with company policies, accounting standards (e.g., IFRS), and statutory requirements while supporting business operations with timely and reliable reporting.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • OU Finance Focal point for all Stocks, Fixed Assets at company owned and company operated sites
  • Ensuring that own and 3rd party physical stocks are reconciled on a daily/weekly basis depending upon location. Also, co-ordinating the annual physical stock take.
  • Monitor slow-moving, obsolete, and damaged stock, ensuring appropriate provisions are made.
  • Review, monitor stock movements and work closely with operations and warehouse teams to strengthen internal controls.
  • Preparation of daily/weekly/month end Cash, Stocks, Sales and Fixed Assets reconciliation for Company owned company operated sites
  • Keeping update with IFRS especially IAS16 and IFRS 16 and ensuring the OU is fully compliant.
  • Checking accounting entries for WIP and Fixed Asset transfers and reclassifying these as required.
  • Liaising with budget holders to determine the completion status of projects and deciding when to transfer expenditure from WIP to completed assets.
  • Process disposals, retirements, transfers, and write-offs of assets, ensuring compliance with MOA.
  • Monitoring expenditure and progress against approved capex budgets and preparing reports for budget holders on this.
  • Periodic cost reviews with the CoB Managers- covering capital expenditure by project and preparing reports for budget holders on this.
  • Participating in asset verification/tagging exercises and updating fixed asset registers as a result of these.
  • Post relevant journal entries relating to stock adjustments and fixed asset transactions.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Liaising with external/internal auditors on any/all of the above.
  • Such other tasks or duties as may be allocated to him/her by the Finance Controller or Finance Manager.

Requirements

  • Finance degree, Accounting, Finance degree (or any related degree) or qualified accountant.
  • Finance, OU and OP experience.
  • Good systems skills and knowledge of ERP (preferably SAP) processing systems.
  • Fluent in English
  • Good communications, influencing and networking skills.
