Job Overview:

The Art Supervisor at CG Life is a hands-on creative leader responsible for guiding visual concepting, art direction, and design execution across assigned brands. This role blends craft expertise with growing leadership responsibilities—advancing the visual expression of brands while mentoring junior and mid-level art team members.

The Art Supervisor transforms complex medical and scientific information into clear, compelling visual storytelling, ensuring all creative work is strategically aligned, scientifically accurate, and compliant with pharmaceutical regulations. Working in close partnership with copy, strategy, account, and project management teams, the Art Supevisor ensures tactical work reflects strong conceptual thinking, craft excellence, and cohesive brand identity across channels.

This role is client-facing and requires strong presentation skills, comfort defending creative thinking, and an ability to build trusting partnerships with internal and external collaborators.

Key Responsibilities, including but not limited to:

Concept Development & Art Direction

  • Visual concepting for assigned projects, ensuring ideas align to strategy and elevate brand storytelling.
  • Translate complex clinical/scientific information into clear, engaging, and compliant visual narratives.
  • Develop visual systems, layouts, data visualizations, and brand elements that ladder to overarching campaign ideas.
  • Guide photo direction, illustration approaches, typography, and design craft across deliverables.
  • Ensure visual consistency and excellence across multichannel work, including print, digital, social, experiential, and motion.

Collaboration & Integrated Creative Partnership

  • Partner closely with copy leads to bring unified storytelling to life.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—Strategy, Account, Project Management, UX, Development—to ensure creative accuracy and feasibility.
  • Help shape creative recommendations and present work during client discussions, workshops, and reviews.
  • Support new business efforts, including concepting and visual development.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide constructive, actionable feedback to junior and mid-level designers and art directors.
  • Support workload planning for direct reports and escalate risks when needed.
  • Model craft excellence, inclusive leadership behaviors, and department best practices.
  • Help grow team members’ skills in design, conceptual thinking, data visualization, and pharma-specific expectations.

Operational & Industry Awareness

  • Demonstrate mastery in file-building, versioning, and production-ready deliverables.
  • Maintain understanding of FDA/OPDP promotional regulations and ensure visual work adheres to compliance expectations.
  • Apply accessibility best practices across executions.
  • Build growing expertise in client business, competitors, therapeutic areas, and how creativity drives impact.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 6+ years of design and art direction experience within advertising or creative agencies; pharma experience required.
  • Experience supporting or contributing to pharmaceutical launches; rare disease experience preferred.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and a portfolio demonstrating integrated design excellence.
  • Proven ability to translate scientific information into compelling visual communication.
  • Strong client-facing presence and presentation skills.
  • Experience mentoring and supporting junior creative talent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Visual Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with motion, UX, or interactive tools is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of marketing fundamentals, brand systems, and multichannel creative development.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, organization, and time-management skills.

As required by law in this state, the estimated salary range for this position is $100,000 - $125,000 USD and represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect. We tailor our offers within the range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the selected candidate’s experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. At CG Life, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus program, subject to the rules governing the plan. CG Life offers a variety of benefits, including health benefits, 401K retirement with a generous company match and immediate vesting, and flexible time off.
