The Mission of the AOCS Engineer

In this role, you will use your expertise in attitude and orbit control to design, develop, and operate the AOCS for a growing fleet of tens of Earth‑Observation satellites. You will join a multidisciplinary AOCS domain that owns all systems directly involved in controlling spacecraft attitude and orbit – from hardware and algorithms to in‑orbit performance and troubleshooting.

Your work will directly impact the reliability, agility, and performance of ICEYE’s SAR satellite constellation and, ultimately, the quality of the intelligence we deliver to our customers.

  • Contribute to the design, development, verification and validation of AOCS hardware and related subsystems for new spacecraft platforms.
  • Analyse and tune AOCS performance (attitude accuracy, pointing stability, manoeuvre execution, orbit control) during development, testing, and on‑orbit operations.
  • Support integration and test activities, including test planning, execution, and troubleshooting at component, subsystem, and system level.
  • Perform data analysis on AOCS telemetry, investigate anomalies, and propose corrective actions and improvements.
  • Develop and maintain tools, scripts, and simulation environments (primarily in Python) to support AOCS design, analysis, and operations.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in avionics, software, GNC/flight dynamics, mechanical, thermal, and mission operations to ensure a robust end‑to‑end AOCS.
  • Contribute to documentation, design reviews, and continuous improvement of AOCS engineering practices and processes.

Who We Are

ICEYE delivers space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities to governments and allied nations. This includes sovereign and turnkey ISR missions leveraging ICEYE’s world-leading synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite technology, as well as access to data from the world’s largest SAR satellite constellation. These capabilities enable partners to detect and respond to critical changes anywhere on Earth with unprecedented speed and accuracy – day or night and in any weather, supported by ultra high-resolution imagery and high-frequency revisits.

As a trusted partner for defense, intelligence, security, and maritime domain awareness, ICEYE’s near real-time data creates a tactical advantage for mission-critical operations. Designed for dual use, the platform also serves civil protection and commercial users for natural-catastrophe intelligence, insurance, maritime monitoring (including oil-spill detection), and finance, contributing to global security and community resilience.

ICEYE operates internationally with offices in Finland, Poland, Spain, Japan, the UAE, Greece, and the US. The company has more than 900 employees, inspired by the shared vision of improving life on Earth by becoming the global source of truth in Earth Observation.

  • Hands‑on experience working with electronic laboratory hardware (e.g., power supplies, oscilloscopes, data acquisition).
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with experience investigating complex system‑level issues.
  • Working knowledge of Python and Git for data analysis, tooling, and automation.
  • Ability to work on‑site in Espoo and collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, international team.
