A Shelter Technician position (Outbound Coordinator) is available with The City of Fort Worth Code Compliance department. This position will focus on assisting the shelter’s animal fostering program and transfer partner network. Our Animal Care and Control department has hundreds of dedicated volunteers, fosters and partners who help the staff and animals with various tasks. Our foster and transfer programs continue to grow and we are seeking an individual who can help us continue to strengthen and expand these programs.  

The selected individual must be an effective communicator who is able to demonstrate diplomacy, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills while working with a culturally and ethnically diverse staff, volunteer, and community base.

  • This is a full time position (40 hours per week) that requires the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • In order to be considered you complete and pass the City’s Defensive Driving course.
  • This position may require you to travel to various locations.

The Shelter Technician position assigned to the City of Fort Worth’s Outbound Team’s job responsibilities include:

  • Recruit/Maintain, coordinate, and train fosters/transfer partners, ensuring they have a rewarding and positive experience
  • Manage animal and persons profiles in shelter management systems
  • Provide support to foster families in times of difficult situations and keep foster families updated on program policies and protocols
  • Handling high levels of time sensitive emails and phone calls
  • Driving City vehicles to transport animals from multiple locations as assigned
  • Monitoring animals for any medical/behavioral issues
  • Attending and hosting adoption events

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • Valid Texas driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in animal care service program or related field
  • Six (6) months of experience in customer service or developing strong relationships within the community to foster a positive image
  • Bilingual skills
  • Knowledgeable in animal handling, animal health and animal behavior
  • Experience organizing and implementing special events and social networking

Candidate selected for hire must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check.

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation

Heavy Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
