Android Engineer, App Platform

AI overview

Work on core components and foundational libraries for Waymo’s hailing app, improving performance and productivity while supporting feature teams with technical expertise.

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.

Waymo's commercial service is running in five cities, and the associated infrastructure is in an early stage. Investment is required for Waymo to grow into a high scale, world-class service.

We are building a team of engineers dedicated to further enhance this infrastructure within our hailing app. Our team is responsible for creating foundational components, libraries, tools, and architecture that enable feature teams to build and ship high-quality experiences.

In this hybrid role, you will report to an Engineering Manager.

  • Design, build, and maintain the core components and foundational libraries that all feature teams depend on
  • Improve and optimize application performance, including battery consumption and memory usage
  • Create and enhance tooling to improve developer workflows and overall productivity
  • Monitor and resolve production issues and performance bottlenecks
  • Collaborate closely with feature teams to provide technical support

You have:
