This position is responsible for planning, developing, and maintaining analytic systems used to understand the current performance of Wabash Valley Power’s power supply portfolio. The role supports the development of strategies and policies to address risks and opportunities related to Wabash Valley Power’s power supply obligations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze portfolio activity, including monitoring market interface of Wabash Valley Power resources, reviewing power invoices, and assessing cost requirements.
Monitor and maintain appropriate registrations in organized markets for Wabash Valley Power resources and loads.
Develop requirements and arrange sources for Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs) to reduce costs associated with transmission congestion.
Prepare compliance filings related to power load and capacity regulations.
Conduct special projects as assigned by the Executive VP, Power Supply.
Support key commercial analytical functions to enable data-driven decision making, discover insights, enhance margin, and refine strategy across Wabash Valley Power’s portfolio.
Develop knowledge of industry trends, policy changes, market dynamics, and opportunities/threats, performing analysis to support strategy and policy development.
Manage data and analytics associated with the portfolio of generation, fuel, load, hedges, and related commodities to understand and maintain positions, volatilities, correlations, risk exposures, and opportunities.
Identify and assess alternative commercial strategies and portfolio positions, evaluating their impact to optimize variable margin and manage risk exposures.
Provide fundamental market intelligence and analysis to support commercial activities, including evaluating third-party supply/demand analyses, facilitating development of market views, and identifying emerging value opportunities.
Develop and implement systems to monitor, evaluate, and report the performance of the power supply portfolio.
Serve as an interface between Wabash Valley Power and various power and transmission associations such as ACES Power Marketing, Midwest ISO, and PJM.
Assist other company functions with analysis and evaluation of strategic initiatives, including member rate structure, energy efficiency, budgeting and forecasting, and demand response.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, or Engineering preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in the energy sector required.
Prior power supply market experience, along with knowledge of electric utility processes, practices, issues, and policies preferred.
Experience in risk management preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong cross-functional skill sets preferred, including:
Valuation and quantitative analysis
Commercial mindset
Understanding of markets, instruments, and market rules
Understanding correlation of risks and opportunities
Familiarity with market data sources, analytical tools, and systems
