We are seeking an Analyst to assist in investment research activities for the Pender Alternative Absolute Return Fund.  From a base in credit markets, the fund is a flexible mandate that can invest across capital structures, taking both long and short positions to isolate market inefficiencies and hedge unwanted risks.  The fund is focused on liquid North American capital markets.  Based in Vancouver, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the success of this growing fund, identifying investment opportunities as well as contributing to regular portfolio maintenance and fund reporting requirements.

Responsibilities will include:

• Monitor North American markets for capital market opportunities, generate actionable trade ideas.
• Write detailed research reports to support investment recommendations.
• Proactively monitor portfolio positions for macro and micro risks, interacting with sell side research analysts and company management teams.
• Active collaboration with the broader investment team at Pender.
• Assist in the production of portfolio reports.

Skills and Qualifications:

• 2-5 years of experience in a related field.
• Undergraduate degree or higher in a field relevant to investment research.
• Progression in the CFA program.
• Passion for learning and investing.
• Familiarity with credit markets and active portfolio management.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to prioritize and work within time constraints.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while also being a team player.

We are sharing that the estimated salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 per year. In determining final salary, Pender considers many factors including the candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, job responsibilities, market conditions, position location and internal equity. Our aim is to ensure fair compensation practices that align with industry standards while acknowledging the unique value and expertise each individual brings to the role. The final base salary for the offer will be presented as part of a competitive compensation package.
