Location: Remote – Based in Japan
Languages Required: Japanese, English
Job Type: Part Time/Freelance
Start Date: ASAP
About the Opportunity
At Welo Data, we are on a mission to shape the future of AI and digital experiences.
We are seeking AI-savvy power users in Japan - individuals who regularly work with large language models (LLMs) and generative AI tools for coding, writing, creation, automation, or experimentation. Ideal candidates include software developers who lean on AI coding assistants, creators who build or storyboard with AI, and everyday enthusiasts who explore multiple models and understand how they behave across tasks.
In this role, you will help us better understand how people in Japan use AI, where current models succeed or fail, and how cultural, linguistic, and contextual nuances affect quality. Your insights will directly support the improvement of next-generation AI systems.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in round-table style discussions about AI tools, including capabilities, weaknesses, cultural alignment, prompt behavior, and model differences.
- Share real examples of how you use AI - coding, writing, document creation, design support, idea generation, manga/comic development, translation, etc.
- Evaluate model outputs and provide detailed feedback on issues such as:
- overly formal or informal tone
- incorrect cultural references or mismatched context
- stale or outdated knowledge
- limitations caused by safety, copyright, or unclear instructions
- Work on data-labeling and annotation tasks informed by these discussions, helping categorize model behaviors, improve prompts, assess quality, and surface model errors.
- Offer high-level opinions on the current landscape of generative models and where improvements are most urgently needed.
Ideal Candidate
- Based in Japan and fluent in Japanese; strong English comprehension
- Demonstrated frequent use of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Midjourney, GitHub Copilot, or similar.
- Strong familiarity with LLM behavior - how prompts influence responses, typical error patterns, and strengths/limitations.
- Clear ability to articulate opinions about AI models and explain why certain outputs succeed or fail.
- A background in software development, writing, translation, education, design, or creative fields is welcome but not required - what matters most is deep, hands-on experience with AI tools.
Note: Please do not use VPNs or IP-masking tools during the recruitment process — our security system requires accurate regional verification.
