RETHINK MANUFACTURING   The only way to ignite change is to build the best team. At Bright Machines®, we’re innovators and experts in our craft who have joined together to create a new category of manufacturing that will help transform the industry. We believe software and data are the answer, thoughtfully applied to solve our customers’ unique challenges. Through intelligent automation, we give factories newfound flexibility, scalability, and resilience. We deliver products to meet the demands of today while building a platform to take advantage of what comes next.   Working with us means you’ll have the opportunity to make lasting, impactful changes for our company and our customers. If you’re ready to apply your exceptional skills to create the factory of the future, we’d love to speak with you.  ABOUT THE ROLE   As a Mechatronics Engineering Intern at Bright Machines, you will be a critical hands-on contributor to the creation of Bright Machines robotics systems. As a member of our team, you will help validate and improve novel solutions to unsolved problems in industrial automation. You will function as a T-shaped engineer, with a focus in robotics software, electrical, or mechanical design. If you’re ready to apply exceptional engineering practices and help build automation that will define the next generation in manufacturing, this is your opportunity to “Be Bright.” WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
  • AI-Powered Code Generation & Development: Work with team members to develop and fine-tune LLMs for code generation, creating developer-specific agents that enhance productivity using tools like Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and custom AI assistants.

  • Intelligent Query Agents & Dashboard Generation: Design and implement AI agents that can automatically generate dashboards and visualizations from complex data queries, improving decision-making capabilities across manufacturing operations.

  • CI/CD Automation & Testing: Develop AI-driven testing frameworks that increase code coverage through intelligent mock testing, automated test case generation, and continuous integration optimization.

  • Robotics Simulation & AI Embodiment: Create and validate AI-powered simulations of physical robot environments, enabling safe testing and optimization of robotic workflows before deployment in real-world scenarios.

  • ROS Workflow Automation: Design intelligent automation workflows in ROS (Robot Operating System) that leverage LLMs for task planning, error handling, and adaptive behavior generation.

  • LLM Fine-tuning & Customization: Fine-tune existing language models for domain-specific applications in robotics and manufacturing, improving their ability to understand and execute complex technical tasks.

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE

Note: You don't need to have all of these qualifications, but most would be beneficial.

  • Pursuing a BS/MS in Computer Science, AI/ML, Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or demonstrated equivalency in related technical fields

  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Hugging Face)

  • Experience with robotics platforms (ROS, Gazebo) is a plus

  • Experience with large language models, prompt engineering, and/or AI agent development

  • Strong communication skills and attention to process detail, with the ability to explain complex AI concepts to cross-functional teams

  • Experience in data analysis, machine learning model development, and creating meaningful visualizations

  • Examples of personal or professional projects demonstrating your approach to AI problem-solving and robotics integration

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAD
  • Experience with LLM fine-tuning techniques and tools (LoRA, QLoRA, PEFT)

  • Familiarity with modern AI development tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, GPT-4)

  • Experience in developing AI agents, chatbots, or autonomous systems

  • Basic experience in motion planning, controls, and robot programming

  • Design team experience (Formula SAE, robotics clubs, AI hackathons, etc.)

  • Experience with simulation environments (Gazebo, Unity, Unreal Engine) for robotics testing

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps practices

  • Experience with metrology, kinematics, and precision mechanisms in manufacturing contexts
