🔍 Job Overview

We are currently seeking a specialist Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join a dynamic community team based at East Ham Care Centre. This role focuses on delivering high-quality SLT services to adult clients post-stroke, with a strong emphasis on supporting individuals with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.

You will be working across various pathways including Early Supported Discharge (ESD), stroke, and neurology, collaborating closely with inpatient multi-disciplinary teams. This is an excellent opportunity for a confident therapist with strong clinical reasoning skills and a passion for making a measurable impact on stroke recovery and long-term care.


🛠 Key Responsibilities

As an Adult Community SLT, your duties will include:

  • Providing a specialist SLT service to stroke patients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders

  • Demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge of the physical, psychological, and emotional impact of stroke

  • Managing and prioritising a complex and varied caseload

  • Supporting the stroke and neuro MDT (multi-disciplinary team) in both inpatient and community settings

  • Offering advice, training, and support to clients, carers, and volunteers regarding communication and swallowing needs

  • Assessing and recommending alternative and augmentative communication aids where appropriate

  • Providing supervision and clinical guidance to other SLT colleagues and contributing to ongoing professional development initiatives

  • Designing and delivering training programmes for carers and team members on relevant SLT interventions

  • Collaborating with local and regional non-statutory services to develop sustainable support options for individuals with long-term communication needs, in line with Long Term Support Commissioning Guidelines


🎓 Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will need:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent)

  • HCPC registration and eligibility for RCSLT membership

  • Demonstrated clinical experience in adult neurology or stroke rehabilitation

  • A strong understanding of acquired communication and swallowing difficulties

  • The ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative MDT

  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive approach to caseload management and service delivery
