Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Band 6 Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapist to join an acute hospital service in Melrose, Scotland. This is a short-term placement within a rural setting, offering the opportunity to work within a supportive acute team environment.

The successful candidate will primarily manage a caseload within the acute hospital sector, with the potential to support community outpatients where required. This role is ideal for a confident and autonomous clinician with strong dysphagia experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced acute setting.

Due to the rural location, access to a car is essential. Accommodation can be provided if required.


Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assess, diagnose, and manage adult patients with speech, language, and swallowing disorders within an acute hospital setting.

  • Provide specialist dysphagia assessment and management, including complex swallowing presentations.

  • Deliver evidence-based interventions tailored to individual patient needs.

  • Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to support safe and effective patient care.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with professional standards.

  • Contribute to discharge planning and onward referrals as appropriate.


Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

  • HCPC registration.

  • Band 6 level experience within an adult acute setting.

  • A minimum of two years’ experience managing adult dysphagia.

  • Dysphagia competency and relevant postgraduate training.

  • The ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload.

  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
