Protective Life is seeking an experienced Actuary or Associate Actuary to join our team supporting PL Re, an affiliate company within the Protective Life group. While PL Re is based in Bermuda, this remote position is located in the United States and requires U.S. work authorization. In this role, you will provide actuarial support across pricing, valuation, modeling, and reporting, as well as contribute to financial analysis, asset-liability management (ALM), capital planning, and regulatory reporting. Reporting to the PL Re Chief Actuary, you will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, capital adequacy, and risk management. Key Responsibilities
  • Support pricing and risk analysis for PL Re reinsurance transactions.
  • Maintain and update actuarial models in compliance with change management procedures.
  • Perform quarterly valuation, including reserve calculations, attributions, and management reporting.
  • Conduct Scenario-Based Analysis (SBA) and calculate components for the economic balance sheet.
  • Complete actuarial components for quarterly and annual reporting to the Bermuda Monetary Authority.
  • Analyze policyholder behavior to validate best estimate assumptions across scenarios.
  • Monitor emerging regulatory issues and update models and controls accordingly.
  • Model PL Re liabilities and assets for strategic planning, solvency ratio, and duration analysis.
  • Collaborate with Capital Planning and ALM teams to optimize SBA results and capital strategies.
  • Respond to inquiries from external auditors, Approved Actuaries, and regulators.
  • Build strong partnerships with accounting, FP&A, product, audit, and risk management teams.
  • Maintain actuarial controls and process documentation.
  • Perform other ad hoc projects as needed.
  • Skills, Abilities & Knowledge Required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly across all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency in actuarial modeling software (PolySystems preferred) and general programming skills.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and solvency regimes: U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, U.S. tax, and ideally Bermuda frameworks.
  • Familiarity with valuation process design, controls, and automation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or related field.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or equivalent designation required.
  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent designation highly preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant actuarial experience, preferably in annuity reinsurance and asset modeling.
  • Experience in pricing and valuation of life and annuity products strongly preferred.
