2026 Internship Project: Quantum Materials (JJ Development)

AI overview

Support superconducting qubit fabrication at the Molecular Foundry, collaborating with engineers to develop state-of-the-art quantum devices with hands-on cleanroom experience.
Rigetti is seeking a summer intern to support superconducting qubit fabrication at the Molecular Foundry at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. The intern will work in the cleanroom alongside the MF team and Rigetti engineers to fabricate qubit devices using varied Josephson junction processes. Fabricated devices will be measured and compared at Rigetti to inform process development. Responsibillities
  • Fabricate superconducting qubit devices in a cleanroom environment
  • Operate thin film deposition systems (e.g., evaporation and/or sputtering)
  • Support development and comparison of different Josephson junction processes
  • Document process parameters and experimental results
  • Required Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or related field
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience
  • Experience with evaporation and/or sputtering systems
  • Ability to obtain affiliate status at LBNL
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AlOx Josephson junctions
  • Familiarity with superconducting qubits or related quantum devices
  • As engineering leaders, we value diversity and are committed to building a culture of inclusion to attract and engage innovative thinkers. Our technology, meant to serve all of humanity, cannot succeed if those who built it do not mirror the diversity of the communities we serve. Applications from women, minorities, and other under-represented groups are encouraged.
