The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The new Office of Performance and Program Management (OPPM) works across the business operations bureaus, including IT, HR, Budget, Procurement and Facilities, to identify opportunities for business improvement and support the delivery of projects, both within bureaus and as inter-bureau activity. We are seeking an intern to serve as a Business Analyst reporting directly to the Senior Director, Performance and Program Management. The intern will work on a variety of analytical projects and assist on OPPM projects already underway.

Responsibilities will include:

- Analyzing quantitative data across the agency, including operational key performance indicators and budget documents
- Gathering and documenting business requirements, analyze and formulate recommendations for business process improvements, execute business process redesign.
- Managing large data sets, execute data analytics, and formulate key findings and recommendations to drive strategic decision-making
- Synthesizing information from staff across the organization into compelling, data-driven narratives that support strategic business improvement opportunities
- Creation of Process Maps and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), for current and target states.
- Preparing agendas for meetings and recording and tracking follow up action points across the organization
- Supporting the implementation of AI technologies to optimize working practices
- Creating communications and training materials for specific project activity, as required
- Managing special strategic projects that support a culture of continuous improvement.

In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.
