We are open to applications from pre-university, undergrad sandwich course and "Year in Industry" candidates - this internship is not open to Graduates.

Overview of the role

We are offering a fantastic opportunity to work within Garrison’s Engineering department as part of the DevOps team – specifically we are seeking an ambitious and hardworking individual looking for hands-on experience within a unique and highly innovative company, and the opportunity to develop within the organisation.

You will work closely with the Head of Delivery & DevOps and the other DevOps Engineers in the team to help support the continuous improvement of workflows, practices and processes employed by the wider engineering team, as well as contributing to continuous integration, deployment, testing/automation, and product engineering.

Garrison has a challenging, supportive and fast-moving working, and as a steadily growing and agile company there is plenty of room for personal development. Our technology stack ranges from bespoke hardware, FPGAs and embedded software, to mobile and desktop applications, web services and AWS. You’ll receive ample guidance for new tasks, but day-to-day we’re autonomous, organized and proactive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing to developing tools and enhancing infrastructure that automate the process of building, integrating and testing our products.
  • Supporting the engineering team in developing, integrating and automating tests
  • Helping to gather metrics on the performance and efficiency of our engineering and processes.
  • Assisting in developing new pipelines for software and firmware build and integration.
  • Improving code maintainability and supportability.
  • Supporting the maintenance of scripts to automate routine development activities.
  • Investigating new technologies and performing rapid prototyping to support technical de-risking and discover new opportunities for design improvements.
  • Promoting a “DevOps mindset” across the engineering team.

Skills & Experience

  • Keen interest in tech and/or cybersecurity industry.
  • Some skills in scripting with Python or Bash, and ideally a basic knowledge of version control systems such as Git.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD concepts would be desirable.
  • Some minimal exposure to testing would be preferred.
  • Able to multi-task and collaborate with multiple teams effectively.
  • Pro-active and able to work well independently as well as part of a wider team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organised, proactive, pragmatic, good time management skills.
