SUMMARY:
The WASH Coordinator will lead the pilot phase of iDE Mozambique’s Market-Based Sanitation (MBS) partnership with World Vision (WV) while also supporting other WASH activities and partnership development at the country level. The role requires strong project management, coordination, and technical expertise in WASH market systems, financing models, and stakeholder engagement. The WASH Coordinator will work closely with iDE Mozambique’s team and the Global WASH team to ensure the successful implementation of the pilot and contribute to the broader WASH portfolio.
As a key member of the WASH team, the WASH Coordinator plays a critical role in implementing WASH initiatives and ensuring alignment with iDE’s mission and strategic goals. This position is responsible for the coordination and execution of assigned WASH projects, providing technical and managerial oversight to ensure effective delivery. The WASH Coordinator will work closely with the project team, providing direct supervision and support to field staff while fostering collaboration with leadership, operations, and business development teams. This role requires strong coordination with iDE Mozambique’s leadership, the Innovation Lab unit (especially based in Mozambique), and the Global Programs Unit (especially Global WASH) at iDE’s Head Office.

- Reports directly to the IDE Mozambique Programs & Impact Director, with a dotted-line to IDE Global WASH

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management & Implementation
- Lead the implementation of the MBS pilot in collaboration with WV, ensuring timely execution of activities and adherence to project objectives.
- Oversee planning, budgeting, and reporting for the pilot project, ensuring compliance with partner and organizational requirements.
- Coordinate the selection, training, and monitoring of masons, entrepreneurs, and field agents involved in the sanitation value chain.
- Facilitate the testing and iteration of different latrine financing models, supporting data collection and analysis.
- Support the development of tools, processes, and strategies to improve the piloting of the one-stop-shop supply model.
- Conduct field visits to assess progress, troubleshoot challenges, and ensure high-quality implementation and documentation.
Technical Leadership & Capacity Building
- Provide technical oversight on WASH interventions, particularly in market-based sanitation and innovative financing mechanisms.
- Support the integration of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) principles into WASH programming.
- Ensure that sanitation products and services meet quality standards and are adapted to community needs.
- Organize and facilitate training sessions for technical teams, field teams, entrepreneurs, and sales agents.
Stakeholder Engagement & Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison between iDE Mozambique and WV for the MBS pilot.
- Coordinate with government agencies, private sector actors, and local communities to ensure alignment with national sanitation policies and market needs.
- Work closely with iDE’s global WASH team to align strategies, document case studies, and share learnings.
- Represent iDE Mozambique in relevant WASH sector meetings, working groups, and conferences.
Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning
- Work with the MERL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning) team to track project indicators and outcomes.
- Document key insights, best practices, and challenges from the pilot to inform future scaling efforts.
- Contribute to reports, learning briefs, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Education & Professional Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Water and Sanitation, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in WASH project management, market-based approaches, or sanitation financing.
- Experience working with NGOs, international donors, or private sector actors in the WASH sector.
- Familiarity with the Mozambican WASH sector, policies, and market-based approaches.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.
- Demonstrated expertise in WASH, public health or market systems development.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including communities, businesses, and government entities.
- Ability to manage diverse (multicultural, functional, socio-economic, educational and professional) teams with strong teamwork skills, excellent communication abilities in a multicultural environment, and the capacity for participatory leadership.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Portuguese and English .

LOCATION
Based in Maputo or Gaza Province with frequent day and/or overnight travel to iDE Moz country office, project sites and potentially international trips as required by new business and as assigned by the Programs & Impact Director.
