About the position

The federal civil service is the bedrock of American government. It provides core services that allow families to thrive and the nation to function. Movement Labs seeks a senior leader to build a program organizing civil servants within the relevant federal agencies to ensure that democratic norms are protected. We imagine the work will be to build a network of reputable civil servants within crucial departments that are committed to not resigning in advance of Schedule F, and who can support each other in upholding democracy. 

The ideal candidate is well-networked within the DOJ, FBI, IRS, DHS and other crucial departments that will have the capacity to exact retribution on pro-democracy forces. Our ideal candidate is especially connected with senior career servants and civil service associations and networks. They are experienced in program development, organizing and educating others, and building partnerships. They also have management experience working with direct reports as well as managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Influence Civil Service Leaders: Persuade officials to ensure democratic norms are protected. 
  • Strategy and Program Development: Build a program and a team to quickly and discreetly connect with and organize civil servants to advance priority strategies.
  • Organizing and Education: Develop organizing strategies and tactics to educate and engage civil servants in campaigns to ensure that democratic norms are protected.
  • Manage Teams: Build and manage teams of internal staff and external stakeholder volunteers and partners.
  • Power Mapping: Utilize power mapping techniques to identify and engage key internal and external stakeholders within each agency.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams and external partners to align efforts and maximize impact.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Track progress, measure success, and provide regular updates to stakeholders regarding campaign developments and outcomes.
  • Resource Management: Oversee budget and resource allocation for initiatives.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in federal civil service, with deep relationships with leadership in federal agencies.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing teams and driving collaborative efforts.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex or sensitive policy issues into accessible messaging for a variety of audiences.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and platforms for outreach and engagement.
  • Previous roles in political strategy or campaign management.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for progressive causes and commitment to social justice.
