We are seeking a hands-on Data-as-a-Service Engineer with deep expertise in Apache Kafka to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the go-to expert for all Kafka-related work, helping to shape our architecture, drive best practices, and guide our engineering teams in scaling, monitoring, and optimizing our data streaming platform. A background in Platform Engineering and a strong command of modern cloud-native tooling are essential.
Position – how you’ll contribute
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of our event streaming platform, ensuring it’s scalable, secure, and resilient.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance infrastructure, observability, and deployment workflows.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring on best practices related to Kafka and platform architecture.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and propose improvements to increase system reliability and efficiency.
- Automate operations and support continuous integration and deployment across services.
- Contribute to platform strategy and help evolve our infrastructure as the business scales.
Expectations – the experience you need
- Expert-level knowledge of Apache Kafka, including experience with scaling, monitoring, fault tolerance, security, and migration.
- Strong background in platform engineering and building distributed systems in production environments.
- Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, particularly with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) components such as Compute Engine, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Tasks.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Docker, including Helm charts, Kubernetes operators, and service mesh integration.
- Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and Terragrunt.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitLab.
- Skilled in Python and Bash scripting for automation and operational tooling.
- Familiarity with core cloud networking components such as VPCs, API Gateways, and Load Balancers.
- Comfortable working with monitoring and logging tools, especially Prometheus and Grafana.
- Self-driven, pragmatic, and able to make technical decisions independently while collaborating across teams.
