Leader Name: John Tarnowski, Chief Client Experience and Technology Offer

As ATB's next Vice President, Technology Enablement, you will develop, coordinate, and implement technology strategies, guidelines and standards across ATB.  Reporting to the Chief Client Experience & Technology Officer, this role strategizes and builds out the plan to ensure enhancement, sustainment and reliability of the IT systems, network, core banking applications, and cloud & traditional data center infrastructure. The VP, Technology Enablement role provides core banking and financial systems application development and support services across the entire application portfolio; manages vendor partners to ensure value, quality and efficiency of IT services; defines and adheres to IT Service Delivery best practices per ITIL (IT Infrastructure Library) framework for change and incident management; and provisions the end-user technology experience.

Key Responsibilities

Executive Leadership and Strategy:

  • Creates ATB’s strategy for all aspects of IT systems, network, core banking applications, and cloud & traditional data center infrastructure in alignment with ATB’s 10 year strategic goals. 
    • Accountable to lead the exploration and delivery of transformative, high-quality and sustainable foundational banking technology solutions for ATB.
  • A key strategic leader and advisor to Senior Leadership within the organization with regard to enhancement, sustainment and reliability of the IT systems.
    • Ie: network, core banking applications, and cloud & traditional data center infrastructure
  • Executive accountability for providing trusted technology guidance into the ATBs strategic planning process within CX&T and with partners in the business areas.
    • Additionally, partners with the ATB Risk & Integrity, ATB Information Security and ATB Internal Audit teams to ensure that the organization's core applications are effectively secured and that risks are mitigated.
  • Partners with executives across ATB’s business units to define a prioritized set of outcomes and application work required to accomplish those outcomes, such as participating in cost optimization and benefit realization activities to ensure the business outcomes are achieved within optimal Total Cost of Operation (TCO).
  • Lead, design and plan the core banking, payments, and financial systems portfolio and corresponding priority, sequencing and funding for all 20x SAP systems and services.

Core System Performance and Improvements

  • Accountable to ensure critical and business enabled core banking applications are available and supported, including incident resolutions and minor enhancements, and standardization of services and adherence to best practices.
  • Oversees the development and delivery for servers, storage, networks, voice, mobile, service and desktop solutions in reference to daily operation. 
  • Accountable to ensure all ATB on-premise data centre operations, including networks, servers, storage, databases are running optimally to enable the best possible consistent customer experience. 
  • Oversight for the processes, management, business liaison activities surrounding the foundational practice of incident and problem management.
    • ie: effective set-up and management of ATB’s 24x7x365 service delivery coordination. 
  • Ultimately accountable for ensuring ATB teams, along with third-party service providers, are operating within expected service levels and when deviations occur that they are managed accordingly.
  • Develop and maintain an Enterprise Monitoring Platform that provides relevant and timely information on the performance of the systems and services that support our customer either directly or indirectly.

Resiliency Services and Technology Risk

  • Oversight on business continuity and disaster recovery plans for systems within Technology Enablement’s accountability, and provide governance and oversight for systems in which other teams are accountable.
  • Responsible for resiliency capabilities including business continuity (from business perspective), Business Impact Analysis and disaster recovery (from traditional IT perspectives). Manage Technology Risk and act as the focal point to all risk stakeholders across ATB.

End User Services

  • Oversee the provisioning of end-user services for the organization, including help desk, technical support services, laptops and mobile devices.
  • Ensuring operational support services are maintained as per the service level agreements and regular team member feedback, identifying root cause in areas where performance does not meet expectations and in some cases drive efficient and effective remediation programs

Technical Change Management

  • Maintain the proper balance between the need for change and the potential negative impact of changes for ATB. It includes the review of the overall change schedule to identify any timing and logistical conflicts, assessment of post-change results, follow up of any issues arising from the changes and train on change process to potential participants.

Environments and Release

  • Oversight on the Environment and Release practices that constitute all of the methods, processes and systems required for the transition of a new product or service into our production banking system. 

Reporting / Operational Excellence

  • The creation and ongoing management of scorecards, dashboards and reporting in the spirit of continuous improvement.
  • Maintain governance oversight for all capacity measures and actions required by the Operational teams

Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 - 20 years of relevant experience in a senior management role in a complex IT environment Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field
  • Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field. A Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering or related field is preferred.
  • In-depth background or certification in ITIL is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of business practices and approaches to business relationships; ability to build strong alliances with internal customers and vendors  
  • Leadership and decision-making skills; high degree of customer orientation
  • Exhibit exceptional leadership, business acumen, and professional behaviours in all interactions
  • Experience managing commercial aspects of IT projects in large organizations
  • Exceptional planning, negotiation and organizational skills 
  • Strong IT background and experience of handling critical and large-scale projects (both technical and functional aspects)
  • Qualified in different project management techniques
  • Strong awareness and understanding of emerging technology and solutions
  • Extensive experience working within centralized governance constructs for technology enablement across the entire organization
