The People Team is the backbone of Lyft’s business operations, mission and culture. We’re seeking a seasoned people executive to join us as VP, People Business Partnership & Employee Relations to serve as our most Senior People Business Partner and to lead our Business Partnership and Employee Relations organizations. 

The VP, People Business Partnership & Employee Relations will be an essential strategic thought partner to our Chief People Officer (CPO) as we continue the pursuit of our north star: to be a customer-obsessed People Team. This critical member of Lyft’s People Leadership Team will define people business partnership strategy: owning creation and execution of the roadmap for how the People Business Partnership (PBP) Team and Employee Relations (ER) Team serve as customer obsessed partners to Lyft’s leaders. They will also serve as the dedicated, senior HR business partner to Lyft’s CEO and a member of the Executive Team, while creating and delivering people strategies to drive pillars of the business forward.  

The VP, People Business Partnership & Employee Relations will report directly to the CPO and will directly manage a select group of senior PBPs while leading the entire PBP organization at Lyft. They will also work closely and collaboratively with Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, People Operations, People Systems, People Analytics, DEIB, and Team Member Experience leads.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of talented People Business Partners and Employee Relations Managers, providing guidance and support in all aspects of HR management. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes excellence
  • Shape and define the overall PBP and ER team strategy, structure and operating model
  • Build and nurture strong, consultative relationships with Lyft’s executive team to create strategic talent plans aligned to support organizational goals and objectives
  • Serve as trusted thought partner to Lyft’s CEO and the executive leadership team 
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the business to drive strategic priorities of Lyft’s Leadership forward
  • Drive scalable, innovative and impactful company-wide People initiatives in a forward thinking, fast-paced environment
  • Own and create People policies and practices, and identify and implement long range strategic talent management goals
  • Collaborate adeptly with stakeholders across the People team, as well as cross-functional partners in Legal and Finance
  • Partner with the People Analytics team to unlock data insights on people trends and apply data throughout our operations to drive decision-making 
  • Serve as a cultural champion responsible for creating and implementing a vision and strategy across the organization that fosters a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace culture. Champion initiatives that promote a respectful and supportive work environment for all employees.
  • Partner with the People Systems & Operations teams to enable thoughtful tooling that leverages the latest AI technology capabilities, to drive self service and automation enabling PBPs to focus on the highest impact work
  • Partner with Legal to shape the operating model for Employee Relations.
  • Manage program budget and annual forecasting

Experience:

  • 15+ years of related experience in the human resources space 
  • 5+ years of experience leading a team of People Business Partners 
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, mentor and build high-performing teams, including developing people managers
  • Successful tenure in a fast paced, high growth, and dynamic business environment
  • Experience serving as a dedicated PBP to members of the C Suite; demonstrated track record of influencing and coaching at the C-Suite level; established, trusted advisor to C-Suite leadership, with experience proactively identifying and addressing structural and individual human resources concerns as well as driving long range business objectives through people strategy
  • A solid track record of demonstrating customer obsession through partnering with C-Suite- level leaders to provide strategic, thoughtful and data-driven HR support
  • Experience managing investigations
  • Outstanding interpersonal and influencing skills - demonstrated ability to develop relationships and influence at all levels within the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to use analytics to drive large scale organizational initiatives
  • Proven track record of being able to deep dive into any area of the business or product, understand business needs, and facilitate executive decisions
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form; ability to work well with senior executives, and able to lead and influence across multiple levels and multiple functions of an organization
  • Entrepreneurial, with a high tolerance for ambiguity and complexity, and efficient with limited resources
  • Highest level of integrity and management of confidential information
  • Strong emotional intelligence – someone who can read people, understand their motivation and background, understand what their needs/wants and the ability to play to different audiences

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the San Francisco office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year. 

The expected base pay range for this position in the San Francisco Bay Area is $325,000 - $350,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits.
